  1. I'm rubbish at electronics too. Sorry bro

  2. I would help you but I don't like the idea of some one working with 120 or 240 volts on my advice when you know not what you are doing... But I will give some tips.

Cut the power. If you have a fuse pull it. If you have a breaker flip it. Test every wire hot or cold with a multi meter before doing any thing. Leave a good 3 or so inches of wire for your cut. Wear safety goggles ( I took a zap to the eye while working on a light switch lol) and lastly never ever assume there is now power in a line. Treat electricity with as much respect as you hope to get out of it.

I would hire a pro to do it or ask a family member. What ever you do good luck with your project :)

  3. Thanks! Ill get my sunnies out ;) lol.
Can i use just a normal power cable, for example a computer power cable? Cut it and split it?

No that would pose a great fire risk and the amperage would be a lot higher. I would get some wire like this that is rated for 120v and 20 - 30 amps http://www.homehardware.ca/en/rec/index.htm/Plumbing-Electrical/Electrical/Wire/Building/Nmd/10M-Yellow-12-2-NMD-90-Copper-Wire/_/N-2pqfZ67l/Ne-67n/Ntk-All_EN/R-I3686167?Ntt=Electrical+wire

That would be a bit overkill but better safe then sorry. Don't spend more then 4 bucks a foot on your wire.
