High Pressure Sodium or metal halide?

  1. for the veg growth?

obvioustly metal hilide is better for this stage but ive herd a few people say HPS does the job well.

what are the drawbacks of using HPS lamps for the veg state?

  2. it's not the right spectrum so the growth will not be nearly as good as it would be under a MH.

Will a HPS work to veg? yes
Is a MH better for veg? yes

I have a HPS and a MH light, and im currently using the MH on my seedlings
is it a good idea to hook up the HPS light every now and then to balance the spectrum or is using only a MH just as good?

  4. for veg, the MH is all you need.

  5. It has been shown that a 5-10% increase in yeild has been achieved in using a combination of HPS and MH during bloom with a ratio of 2:1 respectively. *

    * I can't reference online, but can reference to a published book called "Integral Hydroponics"

  6. ok so a mix of both may be beneficial for flowering, but not for veg.
    thanks for the info guys.

  7. A mix of both, yes. But that does not mean running HPS only one day and MH only the next...

  8. HPS all the way. No need at all to make an extra bulb purchase.
