I recently read a High Times article titled "Kushman's Indoor Veganics" in the Master Grow Guide 2011 issue. After my first read through the article I thought it seemed more like propaganda than an informative piece. I still think the article lacks any real direction... sort of like this paragraph. Anyways, I'm interested in this "Veganics" method of growing. Basically Organics without animal (by)products. I've never grown organic before and I'm still learning to grow so I thought it would be interesting. So I call on you organic experts to help me out with my next grow. I will be growing 8 clones from one of the following strains each cycle: Tangerine Dream Critical+ Strawberry Haze White Widow Jack Herer Cali Hash Hawaiian Snow General - Each clone is being grown in a 1/2 gallon container. - The plants will be under a 600w HPS in a 12/12 cycle - I'm only growing the plants main cola (flower from clone) Nutrients BioThrive Grow BioThrive Bloom BioRoot BioBud CalMg+ DiamondBlack SubCulture-M SubCulture-B Hygrozyme Thrive Alive B1 Growing Medium - Using Cocoa bricks - Hydrating the Cocoa brick with a solution of: PH Balanced Water (what PH?) BioRoot BioWeed SubCulture-M SubCulture-B Hydrozyme Thrive Alive B1 CalMg+ Is there anything I am missing? I already have a decent setup, this is more about the growing methods I am using. I do have a couple questions: What's "Biofilm"? What's Microbe tea? What's Root tonic? Thanks for looking ^^
I don't know, your money? You could start here if you are interested in veganic growing. Not high times. VeganOrganic.net
Not to be a smart ass, , but what I'm missing is why this is in the organic forum? It sounds more like a hydro grow to me.
Personally I think that's way too small of containers for organics. Why not grow 4 plants with 2 main colas in larger pots? Is it a space issue? I'm guessing it's not because you have a 600W light. I guess I'm confused a bit. As for bio-film, it's the buildup of slime on the inside of a container or pipes. It's caused by bacteria, which produces "glues" that allow it to survive. This can be detrimental to your plants, as it's typically an anaerobic bacteria (not to say that all anaerobes are bad for plant health). Essentially, it's what will happen if you don't clean or flush your reservoir. Microbe tea is typically a reference to aerated compost tea. Read this article: Gardening With Microbes: It's Tea Time! Your list of products is hardly what I would consider an "organic" grow. Way too many bottled nutrients! How do you know what's working and what isn't and how do you manage that many products effectively? Best advice....keep it simple. If you want to go organics, I think you'll need a larger pot and a good quality soil. Wean yourself off the bottled nutrients....it's way too expensive and frankly there's better ways to keep your plant happy. I know this post is a bit vague on advice. If you're willing to go with larger pots and consider building a soil (even if that's just incorporating some earthworm castings in with your coco), then I'd be happy to give you some more suggestions. Either way, good luck!
Using the GH "Go Box Start Kit" as well as local gardening supplies the total bill of materials is less than $80. Thanks for writing an informative answer.
skinnyk, I'd like to applogize for my previous post. It seems the sleep deprivation that comes from having a 2 month old can cause episodes of delirium. Good luck with your grow.
I recognize all that stuff at the top of the nutrient list, but what is all this: * DiamondBlack * SubCulture-M * SubCulture-B * Hygrozyme * Thrive Alive B1 * BioRoot * BioWeed * SubCulture-M * SubCulture-B * Hydrozyme * Thrive Alive B1 Love the strain list tho.....mmmmm
Wow, y'all are a bunch of haters on a pot growing forum. Sorry to take up valuable forum space.
Theyre not hating man, you called on the organic experts help did you not? Help is exactly what your getting, those *things* you have there first off is not organic, go through the stickys for some solid organic info if need be. But dont take criticism personal, maybe you werent informed on what TRUE organics is and thats understandable, we all gotta start somewhere, and if TRUE organics, (not commercial consumerism and overnight wonderbud) are what your looking for then this is the place to be.
Badboy made an excellent point. Are you interested in growing high quality medicine, much, much better than any of your friends? Are you interested in doing things naturally? Are you interested in keeping your hard earned money in your pocket, and not giving it to the corporate bastards that run General Hrdroponics and the other manufacturers of the products you showed? Like Badboy said - most people simply do not realize what organic growing truly is. Essentially, it is ridiculiously simple, without all the PH and the PPM and the TDS issues that hydroponic growers run into constantly. If you can answer yes to the questions asked above, then please start reading the "Stickys" located at the top of the Organic Growing forum. Just read. Then read some more. Start asking questions. Before you know it you'll be in the game. I wish you the best of luck. jerry.
Jerry, Kind of off topic but what you said made me think of a question for you. Do you ever need to watch Ph when using organics? For example, my tea I use EWC, alfalfa meal, kelp meal, organic molasses, and RO water. After 24 hours of brewing, my Ph was close to 8... is that normal? Should I lower the Ph before using the tea? I've heard several times that using teas and organics that ppm and Ph isn't a problem but I still like to keep a close eye on all that. Will this tea raise my soil Ph and will it hurt the plant?
I might not be the right guy to ask but I never ever even think about Ph anymore or ppm or any of that. I just don't, and my grow is as healthy as it has ever been. Somebody else chime in here please? Jerry.
That's what I've been doing recently and my plants are the healthiest they've ever been. No deficiencies and healthier growth
That's what I've been doing recently and my plants are the healthiest they've ever been. No deficiencies and healthier growth
From what I've encountered so far, and I'm noob as he'll to the organics, most of the products involved with adjusting ph in your solution are counter productive towards the micro-herd. I had deficiencies from hell using all that crap until one day I decided no more and even tho I'm not making teas yet or giving them nutes from a bottle they came back to life out of nowhere. I look at my shelf full of crap and feel like a total chump cuz now I know I literally had everything I needed in my back yard.
I weened off over a 3 wk period of time and now only use them for a few in hydro buckets. I do enjoy the measurability and consistency I've always gotten from hydro and the work of the process is enjoyable but using them for my soil has been a nightmare and seems like I'd get the same results growing them in a bucket of dogshit under a desk lamp so e I like soil grown medicine much better I'm keepin it real from now on
might not be considered "true organics" to these people but to each their own and if the bottle says organic and you believe that and its what you wanna try then go for shit $80 does not sound that bad you will get your money back on that plus some with first grow then have all that shit for next time so grow on man
