  1. If they survive, those plant stems will start to develop internally, adding strengthening cellulose. Externally, they add girth, becoming more woody and resilient. Strong exposure to sunlight with copious amounts or water applied during hot, dry weather, seem to be correlating factors helping to develop strong, sturdy stems and branches.
