Heaven and Hell are the same place

  1. One man's junk is another man's treasure, and supposedly one man's pain is another man's pleasure. Assuming a (my) catholic approach (so christian, but taking a metaphorical view), the kingdom of heaven is where the losers win and the winners lose. So if people can sin their way to success now, and those who sacrifice their stuff and self-ambition seem to be closer to the "bottom" than they otherwise would be, this would be reversed. The nice, poor, disabled guy finishes first, and the rich, lucky, gifted man finishes last. This is not necessarily to say that the rich guy is evil; he is only more corrupted by what he already has. I won't go into detail about how someone is more likely to get corrupted by money and power but it happens, its natural, and I've yet to see an exception.

It seems we are, even in this physical world, edging towards the kingdom of heaven. Nowadays, being sick isn't such a bad thing. Its an excuse to get a day or two off. Serious illnesses are now being evened out with all the extra care you get. Of course its still not awesome to have cancer, but its better than before, and will probably be better in the future.

The poor get welfare checks. The homeless get food and shelter. The drug addicts and criminals get a second chance. And who pays for all this? Those who can. The middle and upper classes, those who benefit the least from this.

The difference between our socialism and God's kingdom is that people are rewarded not directly for their poor position, but for their intent. In the parable of rich young man, Jesus said to his disciples that those who have the most luck in this life, namely wealth, will find it hard to get into the kingdom. This is because we apparently have to be able to sacrifice all our possessions to our fellow humans (also in the parable, its in matthew or mark I think); the more you have, the harder it is.

So in essence/tl;dr, those who have it easier now, will have it harder in the next life.
