I have had terrible results with this method. I have hps lights with homemade cooltubes and I have to get my hand pretty damn close or even touching the glass before it becomes too uncomfortable, however I must be very careful the my plants get no closer than 16"-18" or it burns the hell out of the tops! The heat is only half the issue with light distance. It may work with CFL's, but not HID's
