Guerilla utensils

  1. Hey guys im in the market to buy some new backpacks, shovels, etc. and i was just looking for some feedback and reviews. I just bought a nato tri fold shovel w a serated edge for cutting through brush, roots n whatnot. I really need a new backpack and i preferably want a us military style one. Can any guerillas point me in the right direction? Money is not an issue, i just want top quality so it doesnt fall apart on me. Ive used my dads old hump backpack but over the years its beginning to fall apart and im tired of stitching it back together. Im also looking for a good 6 inch knife too. Ive always used gerber but open to suggestions. And also if theres anything u guys use in your packs that would be useful i would love to add some stuff to my pack as well. Thanks in advance.

  2. I also think this would be cool thread for guerillas to share whats in their packs and the reasons why so we can share ideas n talk about the most risky, funnest, and most adrenalined filled type of growing. GUERILLAAAAAA!!!!! :)

  3. a pair of handheld pruning shears are excellent for clipping smaller roots up to 1 inch diameter completely silent. I'm like a hooker. I do most of my work on my knees because I like to grow in wide open places with 8 to10 hrs sun. I've learned the hard way that the best way to avoid detection is stay low and work quietly.Chopping and whacking at roots makes a lot of noise.

Yea i use those too if i plant off a hiking path or somn. Well il give you a list of what i pack.

    Army backpack
    Pruners
Duct tape (i use this for repair)
Metal thumb tacs ( i nail em to trees so i can see em at night and direct myself)
Tri fold Shovel (i use it to kill snakes all year)
    Knife
Bandana (put it around my face when i get close to my spots)
Sunglasses (for hiding identity in daylight)
    Compass
Camouflage clothing (so it seems like im scouting deer)
Purposefully wrong sized boots (in case shit hits the fan and i go to court. "your honor, i dont wear size 13, i wear size 11". :)
All the water bottles i can fit in my backpack (some filled w my nutes)
    Garden gloves
    Ipod n headphones
    Walking stick
    Binoculars (smaller the better)
I pack my potting soil in via water cooler with wheels (worst part of the whole grow prep in my opinion)
    Handheld cooler for harvest
    Flask (entertainment purposes:) )
    Trail mix
    Rope/string/pipe cleaner
Generic spray bottles w my fungicide/pesticide
    Wooden stakes
O and a flashlight of course
    Well thats about it.

  5. You have a huge backpack !! What about the TV?LOL!! Man, I try to keep it simple. There are excellent spots with crummy soil, and crummy spots with excellent soil, but I try not to have to hike in dirt if I don't have to. A lot of places here are sandy, just the opposite of the clay that a lot of people have to deal with. Next season I plan to use a spot that is compact soil, but I'm only hiking in peat as a loosening agent. I fix all my dry nutes in 1 gallon freezer bags already pre mixed. A gallon will do 2 3x2 holes pretty good. I'm going to have to make a lot of extra trips to hump in the peat next year, but be damned if I get flooded again. I'm moving into the high country, about 45 feet above sea level LOL..

Dude thats like 45 pounds max. Not that much besides the damn soil. And i use a huge old army backpack. I can fit a family of midgets in there. I used to take the bare essentials but after makin multiple trips to the car/house cuz i forgot somn, i fixed that shit. Ever pocket and space has a purpose. I keep it stocked year long.

  7. I feel ashamed of my dinky little backpack now.

    I tote a mini shovel(very sturdy one)
    Spray bottle w/ neem oil.
    pruning shears.
    deep woods off.
    a timber rattler long knife
    a compass around my neck.
Lighters and a small bundle of lighter wood in case something screwed up happens.
    a monocular.
And that's about it when it comes to the tools. Normally I carry enough dry nutes to do about 6 holes, which weighs around 30lbs total.

  8. I like the starter wood idea. Might hide some in the woods next year.

  9. You never know when you may have to run the opposite direction from home, cross a river and end up in a bad situation. As long a you have a dry lighter, you can start lightered pine. It doesn't matter how long it's been wet.

have most the stuff you guys listed above. But I leave that stuff hidden at grow site.

What I did carrry each trip

Mushroom pickers bucket with permit. (also leave mushroom flats in my truck)
    Machette
    Favorite Porno Mag
    Leatherman
    First Aid Kit
    Water/lunch

Now with my smartphone I can watch porn on the Cell. So no need for the mag anymore.

    LOL :)

PS, custom truck door magnets saying "Joe Blows Mushroom Inc." Or "Jon Doe Trail Cam Photo". I never did this just something I was considering if it may work. It sure gives anybody wondering a good answer without asking. Only bad thing would people coming back looking for your trail cams to steal. The mushroom cover would work good in my area. You need permit to pick them though. You can't look like your picking shrooms and not have permit and seem legit anyway. It's the perfect cover. If your seen driving up to your spot all the time. With your big magnet on the door pull over and ask the local where the good mushrooms are? This way when they see you all the time your just picking the fungus. Stop ask derections when you see them checking mail. Be a vollenteer for the forrest service with goal of getting keys to gates. Think outside the box. But not so far your stupid.

How did I get to this from back packs and porno mags?

  11. Hahahahaha!!! Now thats funny. Porno mags n pot growin! Yea ive done something like your idea when i had a couple close to a road. I used my dads work truck. Wont say what he does but involves bein parked on the side of the road and walk around, just wore one of his company shirts and did my thing. Never had a problem and no one ever questioned it. Nobody happens to know a good online army surplus store do they? I need a good durable backpack. Its already time to start the whole process over again and im totally fine w that! :) had a pretty shitty year this year n jus ready to get on to the next!

  12. Ebay sales good surplus backpacks and porno mags cheap.

  13. I tak a completely different approach than you guys. What i take with me depends on the purpose of my travel. For instance:

If im scouting for sites, i take only a walking stick and compass. I carry a small hand digger and a small sack of arrowheads i bought off of the internet and threw in the mud and roughed up a bit in case im asked what im doing. I dump out the few arrowheads and claim to be hunting them.

Once a site has been determined, my second trip tools include a very sharp shovel and a 3'X3' peice of plastic in my pocket. The shovel is sharp enough to cut any ground roots and the plastic allows me to dump the dirt i dig out of my initial hole. I determine at this point what my soil needs are. If the soil is decent, then i probably only need addititves and i will put the dirt on the plastic back in the hole to return shortly with the ammendments or if the soil has to be replaced, i leave the dug out soil on the plastic to return shortly with 3cu ft of soil to fill the hole with.

Also on my second trip, i determine any brush or trees that need to be modified and ill either bring a hatchet or sawzalll back on my third trip. My 3rd trip finalizes the hole and i wont retrun until spring.

In spring, i return with my shovel to turn the soil over and prepare for planting. I only bring a 1/2 shovel for this.(short handled).

My next trip involves planting so i bring my plant, cage, rebar, nutes, small hand shovel, small water bottle and mulch.

    The next trip.........

    What i carry with me depends totally upon my mission on the trip. If its during the day and people may be active, i take my arrowhead sack for an excuse;

Planting and any activity that involves me possessing tools that cant be easily explained like seedlings, cages, rebar, nutes = are done at night or at dawn when i wont be likely to meet anyone asking me questions.

Kuntrybumpkin- Duluth pack (made in Duluth, MN) is an excellent style backpack for us gorilla growers. Similar to what the early explorers use to use. It's basically one large open pocket that can accomodate just about anything. I can haul comfortably 10 one-gallon premade tea containers (and yes, we northerners do drink sweet tea and not always the powder stuff you have to stir) filled with water/fert. They're made of a rugged, heavy canvas and leather, and when empty they take up very little space. Dark green in color. See if they are to your liking: duluthpack.com look for the style Canoe Pack.

  15. Ive been checkin ebay but i havent really found anything yet. Ive also looked at cabelas and they had a couple of backpacks that i liked but didnt like the material that they were made of. Clod, im diggin the arrowhead excuse. Might have to use that. Most of the places i grow are farms/property that im allowed to be on for hunting and fishing. I feel bad that i have to resort to taking advantage of their kindness to allow me on their prop but it really is the safest way i can think of. I also sometimes hop over to their neighbors farms and do it there. Not a fan of this either but..... Yea im a dawn grower myself too. Its alot less hassle and over the 7-8 years ive been growin, i see alot more of eradication choppers around dusk. Ive only seen one at dawn and i think they were just traveling to their area to search.
Il check out those duluth backpacks right now.

  16. Try uscav.com. I've been in that store when stationed at Ft. Campbell.

  17. Wow. Both those sights are awesome! Thanks guys. Leaning more toward the duluth. Cant wait to harvest and buy me one of those babies. Poppas gettin a brand new bag. Literally! :)

  18. I had to dig a while to find this thread LOL!! Does anyons know of some good, sturdy 2 to 2 1/2 gallon plastic containers for watering? I want to be able to carry one in each hand and one in my backpack, because where I'm growing next year is a good 1/2 mile walk from the river. I used to get these tough juice jugs from a friend that would last all season w/o springing a leak, but if this place turns out to be secure and as good as I'm thinking, I want some containers I can leave out there that will last for several seasons.

  19. U want like actual watering jugs or??

  20. I'm looking for a slim, taller type watering jug with a good screw on lid. Preferably OD green or some sort of plastic that can be painted. I'm going to scout an area out later in the week to find the shortest routes between the potential grow area and the water source. I'm also going to be rigging up a hoist inside of a hollow tupelo to keep jugs, tools, etc well out of sight. I don't want to be trying to tote a bunch of 1 gal. milk jugs LOL.
