Glass Gauze

    I just got a 18.8 glass gauze for my newly acquired bong, the joint size is 18.8 did I make a mistake? Because when I put the glass gauze in the bowl, it seems like its covering up the hole and if I put some weed in there, then I wouldn't be able to pull any smoke or anything. Or if I'm thinking incorrectly, could someone tell me how to use the glass gauze properly?
