Glass blowing questions...

Discussion in 'The Artist's Corner' started by zonked, Feb 19, 2009.

  1. I've recently became really interested in glass blowing and was wondering how I might learn to blow glass myself. Im assuming it takes quite a bit of cash to buy the equipment but im curious how most people start/learn.

    ~Thanks

  2. I'm considering this as a hobby and possible career too, and I think what I'm going to do is walk down to the glass blower's shop down the street (convenient, huh?) and ask if I could go in there a few days a week and learn the basics, at the very least.

  3. If you are talking about blowing glass pipes I don't have any clue, but glass blowing like vases and cups and other art. In most cases you its best to find a glass blower who is willing to let you apprentice under him. IT WILL COST ALOT!! haha First off getting your own tools will cost alot from Jacks to gloves all sorts of things. Also it costs to rent a studio to work in so I would suggest learning what you can before renting time so you can make something and profit haha. I did this for a while worked for a glass blower and assisted him along with just cleaning up and stuff and he then let me take classes for free they were like 500 doller classes for like four sessions in a month so yeah nothing is cheap involving glass i would say though its the one thing I would love to do for my career but I can't afford it for the time being.
