Polite...that's the ticket. I worked at a PD for about 5 years (stenographer) and the traffic cops were constantly saying if people would just talk to them with some respect, in a non-confrontational way, politely, they would have let them go. But everyone wants to make sure the officer knows they pay their salary, or they know their rights, etc.
