I have 3x 400w MH and one 400w HPS bulbs/ballasts/reflectors. My question is, If I put my plants into 12/12 flowering and use the MH, will there be a noticeable difference in total harvest? I keep reading that MH is good for veg and HPS is good for flowering. Would having a few booster CFLs help? I saw one grow journal who did it all with MH but did not read the total weight harvested. What do you all think?
when you switch them to 12/12 and they enter bud they're going to need very litte blue spectrum light which is the only spectrum the MH's give off. depending on the plants, one 400watt hps will do nicely for bud, i'd use a horilux bulb btw. if ya want some nice side bud support, ya might pick up a high output flourescent setup, put some "warm" colored bulbs in it and they will give ya some nice addon to the harvest. also, if u havent already. get some reflective mylar or something to bounce that light around and get even better coverage
Another option is to use a HPS conversion bulb in your MH ballasts. I do it the other way around. I have 2 400W HPS lamps that I run MH conversion bulbs in during vegging. Seems to work great. Good Luck!
i'd go with a conversion bulb it offers the extra red and yellow light that a HPS light has. ive grown with a MH light for veg and flowering and my buds came out greeeeat if you can spring for the bulb , go for it. but if not, a MH light spectrum is still ok and will work finne, but not like a hps
