Hey guys, Trying out LST for the first time. this is the 3rd grow now in a Tent and i'm sick of running out of verticle grow space. hoping I can keep everything a bit lower this time. I've never tried this before and just kinda decided to go for it on a whim as I was switching out airpumps(new one showed up today in the mail) I topped both plants 2 days ago, both recovered with little or no stress that I could see. how do you think everything is looking? P.S. i'm sorry about the purple light. phone is on the way to the phone graveyard and I cant take a picture with the flash on anymore. hows everything look? thanks everyone! happy Friday!!!!
Cool dude! Plan on wrapping them around the pot or leave as is? Trying this myself for the first time too, i didnt top this but it is from about a week ago Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
I’m not sure either! Research and choose! Maybe tie the nodes down towards the outter area of the pot? Probably alot ya could do Still deciding if i want to cut any cola’s off mine or leave them all be, there same height afterall, but i see ppl mainline like 6 or 8. hmm Would be cool to have a huge plant grown horizontally like that! Looks good! I say your good just enough tension as you go but let her recover a bit before continue unless she's strong she looks great! I did some lst topping and main lining on mine click and see mine or here are some photos
Update:did a little bit more LST and trimming. going to add 2 more tie down points to each bucket right now, tie down the front end of the plant. and then flip to flower probably in 5 days or so. Like i said First time doing this so any suggestions or constructive criticism is welcome. here is how things are looking. the one on the right has had about 4 days to recover, the one on the left was just done a few minutes ago.
dont flower yet!!! do another training for 2 weeks 2 week recover then flower i say one more month!!!
I def can't Veg them for another month haha. I'm trying to keep them small. and until I figure out my nutrient changes a little bit better a SCROG isn't really an option for me I don't think. thanks for the Input brother! I'll definitely consider it. Happy Wednesday! half way through the week!
What are you needing in regards to nutrient change? and a scrog is an option! to be fair i think it should be done by everyone who has a indoor grow space thats smaller then 6x6 tax advantage of everything you got! my first grow ever i did hydro DWC topped once and pulled about 12oz you can easily get 1lb or 1lb and a half if you veg the extra month even if you dont scrog just let them bush up and grow then just trim off the larf before flowering so they dont put energy into that!
TBH it's pretty easy to fill out the whole canopy without a scrog net. I'm doing dwc for my first time ever and a few pinched or tied down nodes here and there and i had too many plants to fit in my 3x3. i'm down to just two in this tent right now and after i flipped them, they're each big enough to each have the tent to themselves, so they're pretty squished tp say the least. I definitely flowered way too late, i think because i'm used to soil where you need a good 2 months of veg to have a chance at good yields indoors. my next grow I plan to do a handful of small plants and flip the lights at 3-4 weeks
I've recently learned I've been doing my changes the "old school" way, completely empty and change out with fresh nutrients once a week. this requires me to remove the plants entirely from the DWC buckets and put them into other 5gal pales while I do some work. which isn't a problem and has always worked. But removing plants and using a SCROG don't really go together, I don't think they do anyway, am I wrong? This is my 3rd indoor tent grow, and the frist 2 times I pretty well Just let the plants do their thing other than topping and very limited trimming. definetly going to try to minimize the amount of "larf" this time around. (I haven't heard that term haha I like it) thanks for the reply! Almost Friday!
Yeah 3rd tent grow, and trying to keep things much more in control this time. the last couple times the plants have gotten out of hand really quick, so I'm going to try to avoid that as much as possible.
I just read @GoldGrower thread on how to determine nutrient strength for plants and I will be doing the test either tomorrow or Saturday, I hope the girls are okay until then. P.S. does the LST/Defoliation look okay? I've NEVER defoliated before so just kinda free styling it as I go. thanks again.
defoliation is all up to preference. as long as you don't strip them bare, you should be ok. as for the bucket changes, I was doing the same method as you, only I had 4 buckets to do every time. It became VERY tedious to say the least. I wound up just making more nute solution as needed and feeding them through the pebbles as they needed. plus, having a water level indicator on the buckets makes this very easy to figure out how much you'll need. If you don't have those, then I highly suggest putting something together.
I've never used the water indicator. I was always under the impression that any light getting to the nutrient solution, could result in root problems/algae growth. I've always just lifted the lids and take a look inside. I can see how it would be nice to just be able to look at the bucket and know exactly how much is left in it though. I will for sure look into this. yeah I've got a bit of problems with the plants now, so I'm going to switch out all nutrients again, do @GoldGrower test and try to figure out if I'm over or under feeding (I'm almost for sure its under feeding) just because of how weak the nutrient I'm mixing is. I'll update as soon as I can. thanks for your help.
They look great man, I see the small discolouration you're talking about, if I'm honest I'm not really sure that that is, but if the ppm is low then it could be a particular nutrient deficiency, but not a common one. Overall they look really good so I wouldn't worry too much. Are you getting enough air to the roots? Lack of oxygen can cause odd effects, this will be paired with slow growth though and you would have probably noticed that already I don't defoliate, I let the plant make that decision for itself. Leaves that are low down under the canopy not getting enough light won't be producing enough energy for them to be worth keeping so the plant removes nutrients and then drops them. It's not really something I get involved with, I certainly wouldn't remove a healthy leaf that's receiving light. LST is also something I don't really do. The whole idea of LST is to spread the plant out to fill the area, to achieve similar results I grow more plants. I like to try different strains and I don't like doing work haha so it works best for me. I used to do it when I had
yeah I can't make out what the problem could be, going to switch out the nutrients today and switch to transition mix. 10ml each of the flora series. hopefully that makes a positive difference. glad to hear you think things are looking good. Definetly shouldn't be a air/root problem, I just bought a new airpump (viviosun 14w) and I've got more air pumping into those 2 buckets then I've ever seen before. I'm really happy with the air pump, and its not to loud either. This is my first time experimenting with LST/defoliating. I feel like the LST is going pretty good. as for defoliating I really have no idea what I'm doing and have just kind of removed a few fan leaves here and there that are blocking light to the parts I've tied down. I'm a big fan of not doing work also! haha, the last 2 grows have gotten out of hand/control/to tall/big and I feel I need to try to do something about it haha. hopefully the LST/defoliating does more help then harm. I got some Dwarf low flyers(autos) outside in soil which have stayed really short well under 2'. would be a really good size indoor plant. I put one in the DWC and it got freaking huge though.
Update: I've still got some discolouration, and the ends of the leaves are burning a bit. I guess its some nutrient burn? I'm not sure what else it could be. at first I thought 418ppm was pretty low but I've found out that isn't overly low. I did @GoldGrower test for how much to feed the plants. 24hr ago I mad a fresh batch of Nutrient solution for both DWC buckets. PH'd down to 5.7 and the PPM was at 418. This morning when I checked the nutrient had PPM had risen to 460PPM, If I'm reading @GoldGrower instructions properly, this means my nutrient is too strong for the plant. I emptied about 1/3rd of the solution this morning and topped it up with PH'd clean water. dropped the PH back down to 5.8 and the PPM down to 360PPM this is what things are looking like now. also did one final tie down for the LST before flipping to flower. thanks for all your help @GoldGrower you have been a massive amount of help and information.
