Dumpster diving / trash picking anyone?

  1. Normally if its at the end of someones driveway the night before they pick up trash, I leave it alone. What could their trash be that was cool enough to take?
Well, driving home from work today I spotted this in someones trash. Just came back from picking it up (Felt a little weird cause their neighbor was doing yardwork and I didn't want to look too sketchy, so I went home and had dinner and just snuck out for it now)

I could care less about the computer itself working, I just thought it would be a SWEET case to grow in! I've got one case already started, now it looks like I may grow in 2 cases!
    I'm pretty psyched!:smoking:

  2. sweet case! nice pickup! I'm w/you though. If I see something that someone's throwing away and I like it... I'll grab that shit right off the curb. Better than goin to the landfill, ya know?

Also, I gotta see pics of your plant man. I've always wondered how gorwin in a pc case would work cuz it just seems like it would be too small. but it looks like you got in on (z)lock here

  3. looks like an alienware case. hard to come by for a good price. you should sell it. seems like a waste to grow in it. you could easily buy a larger better case with the profits.

  4. Man listen to kanibal rabbit alienware computers are worth 3000 and up. See if it works and get mad cash for it.

  5. if it doesnt work its still worth a good amount of cash.

  6. Hell yeah man lol...I have a lot of shit i've collected from in front of peoples houses lol...Tables, chairs...shit...Comin up big!

  7. it is an alienware, everythings there inside (didnt look like it had ever been opened), I plugged it in and hit the power button, got nothing. I was thinking maybe I'd sell it, I guess I have to see what people are getting for them on eBay...

  8. oh and jcmartin86, i'm still in the "putting it all together" stage of my grow... going to wire up my fans tonight, hopefully I'll have SOMETHING in there starting to grow this weekend. I'll PM you some links to another site that you might find interesting

  9. damn I wish I had your luck. its probably just the power supply (really easy fix)

what were they thinking just throwing it away like that? you may want to pull the hard drive (or replace it) before you sell it. in my experience if a newer computer is tossed instead of repaired, its because they have something on there that they dont want a tech to find. its usually kiddy porn.

so unless you want to run the risk of having uniforms at your door, pull it. it shouldnt devalue it much. hard drives are easily replaceable and the type of people who bid for broken computers know this.

  10. What if i sell it for parts only, and run a magnet over the hard drive?

  11. i know someone who used to drive a few towns away to the dump in a rich area just to go trash picking, he used to come home with perfectly good shit all the time...its amazing what rich people will throw out

  12. fix that fucking shit
    its sooo worth it!
i wish i had ur luck soo badly
new power supply, hard drive and i bet that thing would boot right up
it would b a waste to make it a grow box. buy some cheap ass case for that
u got a rare alienware. u could prob sell that case for the price of like 4 cheap cases

  13. parting it out will bring less money since some parts might not sell. the whole magnet theory isnt entirely true. it would take a rediculously powerful magnet and
theres no guarantee that the data is gone for good. reformatting is the best bet but can be reversed if you know what youre doing

  14. ya dude that's definitely an alienware pc. i'm a total computer nerd and i would shit a brick and fix that shit if i found it. good eye man. you could definitely pull some dough for it on ebay. don't part it out, especially since it's an alienware pc.

i assume you want to put a magnet over the hard drive to erase it? why bother?

  15. jeeze, now i'm wondering if maybe i should fix this thing up, haha. I guess I'll see what happens with my ebay auction.... hasn't even been up for 24 hours and its at 80 bucks (only 2 bids though)
What do you think it should sell for?

  16. lol idk id say 300-500 dollars some1 willing to take a gamble

  17. Wow, that would be nice, LOL

  18. Take it to a computer shop and ask them whats wrong with it and have them give you an estimate for a fix.
