Statements like that require careful translation. Here is what he is really saying: "If we legalize marijuana, The people like me in power will lose money! Oh and we don't give a shit about your rights either."
Kind of happy they said this. Why? Their reasoning is full of holes and further shows how corrupt they are and how much common sense they lack. I think organizations like mpp and norml will jump on this as an opportunity to show how all of thier statements are self propelled lies. I actually don't blame them nor do I expect them to say anything different just yet. UNTIL CA actually passes legislation or it's voted in, it wouldn't be smart politically to condone legalization of marijuana. I mean, when it is resoundingly approved by CA (which I have no doubt it will) then they will probably change their stance. But Obama doesn't need to pick ANOTHER controversial issue when he has soo many other things going on...

For the next election, although a really long time from now we will have to organize a mass writing of letters, im talking millions of letters saying legalization yes or no and why and tell them that if they say no we are not voting for them. Did any of you actually THINK that MJ would be legalized on a national front under Obama? It's not like he actually campaigned on that, or even said he would. The only thing he said about MJ that I can recall is that he would back down on MMJ raids by the DEA, which he has. BUT HE NEVER said he'd legalize it.
i agree, but to just shut it down with no reasoning behind it is not nice considering how many young people made him win. it is also BULLSHIT for gil to say "its dangerous and has no medicinal value". He himself came from seattle where he admitted to making marijuana a low priority because theres more important things to worry about.
