Do you gamble?

  1. If so, what's the most you would feel comfortable losing at one time.

  2. Poker and sports mostly.
Bankroll management is an important part of gambling. Make sure you only play with what you can afford to lose.

  3. Horse tracks & dog tracks I do. I would love to bet on sports but everytime I find a legit site it won't let me register cause I'm from the U.S -_-
if anyone knows a legit (one that won't just fuck me over if I win) site an American can use, a pm would be appreciated :)

  4. Scratch offs all day. But I gotta cut myself off around 15 dollars at a time. If a play slots I'll drop 50 bucks.

Well, bankroll management doesn't apply unless you expect you're some kind of favorite to win. Otherwise it's just loss management. Bolded part applies always, for sure.

I play poker and I've got no problem dropping hundreds and continuing if the game is good and I'm still playing soundly. Also have continued past that point and spewed off a ton. Takes a lot of discipline to walk away. Most I ever lost in a day at poker was 1k in a six hour 2-table HU session where I got stupid at the end. Felt like shit about that. But I'm pretty sure I feel worse dropping $100 at roulette (done that a few times) because I know it's a game I can't expect to win at.

At the moment I don't have enough money to play comfortably, so I don't, since losing anything would be more than I'm comfortable with right now. At various times in the past year or two I would say the most I was comfortable losing (at what I play) was as high as $500, beyond that anger/frustration not avoidable. And yeah I've went past that a few times.

Edit: I know people who have lost mid five figures in a day playing poker or even straight up 50/50 flipping, and I have spoken to people whom i know to have lost mid six figures in a day. People like this can teach a lot about disregard for money when it is necessary.

  6. I used to gamble online, and managed to pull $1000 of one of those websites. The most I ever lost in one hand was probably a few hundred dollars.

  7. I was doing the online poker thing since the Chris Moneymaker days. I went 1 year playing at least one tourney per day. Always looking for that big 6 figure cash but never hit. I had the money to sustain that level, so the losses never got to me. My poker days stopped when the sites started to reject US players.

When through a severe depression about a year ago. Self-medicated with alcohol and gambling. Great combo, right? Lost count of how many trips I made to Vegas in 2011. I was making idiotic $500 bets on baccarat. Each trip was around a $3,000 loss. I just didn't care but the worst part is waking up the next day, broke, hungover and feelin' even more depressed.

This year, I got wind D. Rose was out against the Heat before most books knew. Splashed $500 on the Heat only to watch the Bulls bench destroy the Big 3. I was comfortable with the $500 loss but not something I would do everyday or even every week. Just one of those spots I thought I had an edge...

  8. These days I'll only play the odd $20-$40 house game. (poker)

Am ahead of the Indians for sure not to mention the entertainment factor.

The key I've used in casinos is take whatever come-up you can in the first 30 minutes and get the fawk out. If you're there any longer odds are the house is gonna rob ya.

Spread it out in 20's and if I lose a hundred bucks in a row usually feel pretty sour about the day and cut the losses shortly there after...

I like to play with 300 bucks though. Never more.

75% of the time I've hit multiple hundred dollar spins have been on a machines first pull.

I think that the absolute amounts are not important, unless taken into consideration along with how much someone has, which is not something that we need to directly discuss. I think this is what is keeping people from posting here. It is intimidating to use numbers...

It would probably help if talked about or worded differently. For some people the most they are comfortable losing in a day is a day's income. For others it's much less. For others much higher. I get the feeling a lot of people are going to give answers in the $0-thousand range when what really is interesting is who's more or less risk-averse, who won't gamble for what he makes in an hour, and who would be comfortable losing a few weeks worth of income because hes got savings or he loves the thrill etc

Even if you don't gamble or you feel you're part of the majority your reply saying as much is useful

  11. Only real-life poker :)

  12. same here, and like an above poster said, only gamble what you can afford to lose. i lost around 7 grand at a table in vegas in under 5-10 minutes LMAO.

playing with friends or around town i limit myself to a 200 dollar budget, unless i get up and have extra to bet. if i lose the original 200 ill keep my winnings and be done for the night.

  13. Over here in Czech we dont get much paid, and we get paid at specific day of month, and we pay high taxes, so we dont go mostly above 20 bucks here :)

  14. Little bit of Texas Hold 'Em, that's about it though.

  15. You name it, I've bet it I'm sure. I love gambling.

  16. I have a $100 limit but it's flexible depending on mood. I bet on horses, greyhounds, blackjack, roulette and the pokies. I rarely bet on sports because the odds never appeal to me.

I lost way to much money gambling in 2011 but i've cut back alot now

  17. I used to play poker professionally for a few years. I don't even rememb er how many . I was high. I had about 8 month period bad period. Not like a woman's period. But still bad period. I was in the red you can say but overall I won a good chunk but it got really boring and annoying to not win when having great edge. Now I am happier without poker but I might return soon.

Yep I gamble. nothing too serious, sports betting is more of my thing than cards. But I dabble in a little of everything.

the most I ever lost in one hand was $2,000.

the worst thing was it was playing Guts. Was at a simple party, just a friendly card game, nothing too serious. We were playing with a dummy hand the ante started at only 5 bucks, but the pot skyrocketed after a few people busted. This is just a friendly casual party..I play cards pretty often, but some of the people in the game dont gamble much. So when the pot gets this big a lot of people are gun shy about going in.

I get dealt 2 kings, jack high. I get this hand, and I'm looking at the pot and I know I just gotta go for it. I mean it's 2 kings, jack high... odds are in my favor. I go for it and....... the fucking dummy hand ended up having three 5's lol.
