The second point of my argument, that there has been a change in the portrayal of other segments of the population especially white males should also be obvious. Please think back to the shows of the 1950's to the 1970's, and how white male father figures were presented during this time. Shows like Father Knows Best, Leave it Beaver, the Andy Griffith Show, the Lone Ranger and I could keep on going on, presented white males as a role model of someone who was almost always correct, and someone who should be emulated. Now there are numerous shows, commercials, and other forms of media, that either exclude the white male father figure altogether or portray this character as a flawed figure. Again, I think any observer, will agree that the presentation of the white male father figure has changed significantly.

Now then, the common presentation of white male father figures as almost always universally positive and the lack of representation or negative portrayal of black males during the 1940's to the 1960's was neither realistic nor fair. I think we would agree with this point also. Second, that there has been a sea change in the portrayal of these people would be difficult to argue.

Going back to your initial question, do we as a society have a racial identity crisis because some white kid from Georgia is acting like he is from the hood, has a tinge of racism in it. By asking this question you are basically saying that white and black kids should act a certain way because of their skin color. My point is that we, as a people both black and white, are heavily influenced by the media, more so than I think you are willing to acknowledge. The kid in Georgia just views the "gangsta culture" in a positive light and is trying to emulate, and reason for this is because of the media.

You probably will not agree with my comments, and still insist that the black man is still being wronged by the media, and that is fine. And you will attribute the behavior of this white kid in Georgia, as having nothing to do with the media, and that is fine. But, don't ask any more questions that you don't know the answer to, instead just sit back and drink your coca-cola and frito lay potato chips and dream about the next Apple I-whatever product, listen to your favorite radio station and watch your favorite tv shows, and don't trouble yourself with such weighty issues.

I know what you mean..the only thing is that in the OP I stated that I didn't really mean "crisis"...I shouldn't have used that word in the first place.
