alright, i've never had to deal with making a claim from my insurance company but my car was recently damaged in a hail storm. it's not so severe that i'm worrying about it, but my grandfather saw the damage and told me to take it to the insurance office to have it looked at so they can write me a check. he estimated about $1500 because he had damage as well. my question is, do insurance companies follow up on having the car repaired? my grandfather is insisting that they will write me a check and be done with it. i can either repair the car with the money or simply deposit it in the bank and have a little extra spending money. does anyone know how this will work? i don't want to get down there and find out i have to run all over town trying to get my car fixed. i just want some money lol. any replies appreciated.
