David Gilmour appreciation thread Greatest guitarist ever. There's no comparison. His epic guitar solos take you to new worlds. His playing fills you with emotions that leave you in awe. Comfortably numb, time, Shine on, Echoes, Money, Another Brick in the wall, and countless others. Take your pick. He is the greatest. This is the greatest piece of music EVER. WATCH IT ALL, GILMOUR IS GOD. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yeiz5wENoio So...share your experiences with David Gilmour and Pink Floyd, I have countless and i'm sure you do too. Lets make this a general discussion about not only David Gilmour but Pink Floyd in general.
OH yea, earlier this week a tear ran down my cheek when I was blazed as fuck watching this entire concert.
Yeah man one time I got high on top of a hill overlooking my entire city and the lyrics and music of shine on synced up perfectly with what i was doing. this other time i tripped when I was listening to echoes and went for a wander in the forest at 2am to smoke a joint. it got to that trippy part in the middle and i thought i a rapist was gonna jump out from behind a tree.
Gilmour is at a level where there is no other comparison; but that doesn't make him the best. The likes of Page, Hendrix, SRV, Clapton, Beck, etc.... are all on their own level, beyond comparison with eachother. Believe me, I live for Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin... David Gilmour and Jimmy Page... and I've ran it over in my head thousands of times; who's better? But you just can't come to a justified answer, I believe it's impossible. I really don't even feel like gushing about Mr. Gilmour, words don't suffice... either way, I'm very glad to say I own the PULSE DVD... It's brought tears to my eyes too. I'll leave everyone with this, what I believe is the best example of guitar tone ever, only what is to be expected from a man often called the god of tone;
Mmm... stupid embed videos, it was working when I first posted it. It's just a little clip of part of the Echoes solo, it's just the best example of tone I can think of. When he actually kicks in to the licks, it's like the voice of god... gotta love the original Fuzz Faces. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Y1SnVrb0VVU
comparisons are short cuts to thinking. each of these guitarists have their own styles and are amazing at them.
Well, Gilmour is one of those extremely talented musicians, that had years of playing and experimentation with musical ideas. Look at Live at Pompei. They were working on things not many people tried. I like on Live at Pompeii where Gilmour has a slide and heavy heavy high gain distortion and is just going nuts while Roger Waters hits the big gong and Nick Mason drummed his little heart out. I dont remember what Wright was up to at the time. Probably slamming keys up and down scales.
hell yea i love the part after that when the organ kicks in, i always enjoy that part of the song with a good hit, but of corse im usuley smoking a sweet whice i watch the movie...i wish there are some other floyd movies i can watch from that time. pulse is ok but i think their music from back in the day is more apprechative..sry bout the spelling
haha thats so funny pompei is the greatest thing to come from pink floyd aside from their music of course as for pulse..... cough
Old thread but still Gilmour is THE BEST. Insane how much emotion he can play with, just amazing. This songs off his first solo album not that many people might have heard it. its an istrumental... so sick [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4m6U1hoeSYk"]YouTube - David Gilmour-Raise My Rent[/ame]
