I am so sick of hearing about this "Stop being lazy, work hard, and you'll see the American dream!" bullshit from Conservatives. If you can't work for whatever reason including a mental illness or an injury, it's always 100% your fault. My father is the perfect example of how hard word will NOT make you prosperous in this right-wing society we live in. He has been busting his ass managing and stocking shelves at the same supermarket since he was 18, he is now 53 and 36k in debt due to medical bills. The biggest bill is for the surgery he had to get on his lumbar for a work related injury. Hard work will not get you anything in this country. Some people are just dealt better cards and we need the government to lend a helping hand for those who weren't dealt such a strong hand.

By the way Conservatives, if you hate socialism so much, put your own fires out, teach your own kids, build your own roads, fund your own damn precious military, and when you get old, you had better keep your hands off of medicare. Don't vote while you're at it, that's a form of collective socialism. Peace.

  2. It's no one else's obligation to carry your burden.

'The government' doesn't need to do anything. When you ask 'the government' to support you or your father financially, you're really asking everyone in the U.S. for a handout.

The funny thing is, most true 'Conservatives' (in the actual sense of the word) would prefer doing it this way.

It's the pesky socialists that continue expanding the government and adding these services..

That is a straw-man argument. I was simply pointing out that it makes no sense to believe that hard work will magically make you wealthy.

I never said that the government did. I was stating that you can still be less than broke, even with a lifetime of hard work. I do think we should have received temporary welfare, however, for we had less than a $200/week income for over a year because my mom has a mental disability that prevents her from doing any high paying, complex jobs! We should go broke because of that?

A private police force? You really support that notion?

  4. Voting is a form of collective ownership of the means of production? How's that?

  5. so·cial·ism
    noun ˈsōSHəˌlizəm

A political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

  6. You did say that:

In any case, it is terrible that you've had disability affect your life in this way. But forcing other people to give you financial support is wrong. This is what the government does, and by extension, what you do when you ask the government for a handout.

Not just one, my friend, but many! Many, and many more, all competing! That would be a thing of beauty.

  7. Ok. Voting in itself doesn't support such a thing.

  8. What do you mean? Voting is a collective mean, that is what socialism is.

  9. Voting doesn't necessitate anything in the definition you posted. Just because someone votes doesn't mean they are voting to regulate the means of production.

It's not a handout. We all pay a percentage of taxes every year that goes to welfare. We would have simply gotten back what we paid for, especially since it was only for a year.

I want any police force to have as much regulation and oversight as possible.

We're on the opposite side of the aisle, so we'll just have to agree to disagree. :smoke:

  11. That is a very simplistic definition of socialism, I just posted that to try and answer your first post. Any collective means as a society is socialism. Coming together as a society to elect a candidate is collective socialism.

  12. You're just making up your own definitions now.

  13. That was the definition.com definition, it has to be short and vague. I'm a Democratic Socialist, I know what Socialism is. Research it and you will understand what I am talking about. I mean that in the least condescending way.

  14. I get what you're saying and it pisses me off also because I'm on disability for a legit reason but I think the majority of conservatives are more moderate and do support disability and medical for people that actually need it..what bugs me though is they all seem to blame the "welfare queen" stereotype as to why we have problems with it when they are a small percentage compared to the hospitals and doctors getting millions from medical fraud..we just need reform all over, it's not one specific group

  15. I just want to point out that the money 'collected' in 'taxes' is not the same money that is paid out in welfare. Most likely the money sent out is borrowed or 'printed'.

  16. The fuck? Why didn't your dad just further his education and get a job in a market that was accelerating?

It's not anyone's fault that he decided to pursue a dead-end career path...

I'm just being straight forward with you man, not trying to insult anyone here.

  17. False. Tax payers pay for social programs. I don't think we would print the money seeing as though that would cause a Snickers bar to one day cost $75 on sale.

Good point. Not that anyone can just take off and go get educated. But when you work a job that high school students work your entire life how do you expect to be wealthy? It'd be like me being a paper boy till i was 60 and whining i can't retire.

  19. Exactly.
