Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by mountains, Jun 11, 2011.

  1. Hey All, I just signed up cause I could use some help from those more experienced in medical use of marijuana. I haven't smoked in 3 years since college cause I was working to be a firefighter but something happened and I got super ill. I've been housebound for 2 years and the only diagnosis I got is CFS/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Anyone familiar with CFS knows it's a BS diagnosis that they don't know what causes it (there are many causes).

Anyway, I lost 45 lbs and I probably can use the MMJ for appetite alone but I remember back when I used to smoke every few weeks for recreational use in college, it would make me super tired. The day after I would be burned out and this is when I was healthy and working out. Im wondering if I use MMJ if itll make my fatigue unbearable.

Basically to those that don't know, it's like your body weighs 1000 lbs (like you ran a marathon, lifted for 2 hours and got 0 sleep for 3 nights) 24/7..... And my heart goes crazy when I walk for more than a few hundred feet, lightheadeded, etc.
Because of that, I have days where my body is just running on pure adrenaline and I can't sleep for 2 nights. It's a rollercoaster.

So, Id like to use MMJ for sleep and regulating that sleep cycle (usually cant sleep until 4am) but if it's going to make me super tired, fatigued and I can't wake up until 3pm then there's really no point.

    Any input welcome. Thanks.

  2. damn sounds like you need a proper diagnosis, i can't help with that. if i were you i'd give MMJ a try, at least until you feel like it isn't helping you.

I'm sorry to you got this dreaded syndrome and the bs way that it just stops your life in it's tracks.:(

I'm a Fibromyalgia sufferer and as you may know CFS and Fibro are pretty much the same in the way it affects people.

Try reading through this thread on Fibro for some help.
    http://forum.grasscity.com/medical-marijuana/819283-fibromyalgia-mmj.html

Personally my mj experience before Fibro I do remember a lot of couch lock, but after Fibro when I smoke it's the complete opposite I'm energized and since mj makes your heart pump blood faster that blood to my muscles and joints helps in movement -- just feels like my body has been lubricated so my movements are fluent, the pain is gone for a few hours.

As I suggested in the other thread get your thyroid checked. Go to the site I posted to read up on it. If need be get the TRH test done for thyroid disease. It might make some difference in your symptoms if you do indeed have thyroid disease, I know it has for me.

There are many of us here with CFS and Fibro to help. Search through old threads on the subject.

    I hope you feel better.

  4. Hi, I just signed up on this forum and have had CFS for a long time. It is good to get a proper diagnosis but you have to find a doctor familiar with it as most docs can't be bothered. I just starting using medical pot for sleep, myself. I take a few meds so now I'm falling asleep okay but the big problem for me is poor sleep quality, what they call non restorative sleep. So far what I'm trying has helped my sleep but also gives me a hangover, that can be brief or all day, so still need to experiment.

There are many CFS Yahoo Groups and Facebook has become a wealth of info and community for people with CFS and Fibro. the big news for the past year plus is a link to a new retrovirus, XMRV. Right now it's dueling research studies that each contradict each other but it's worth paying attention to. Check out the Whittemore Peterson Institute in Reno, for cutting edge work.

And if anyone can direct me to a CFS specific discussion here I'd be grateful.

I've found that some strains do energize me but also leave me stoned all day, and truth be told, with CFS cognitive problems I want to be clear headed and energetic.

    Thanks

  5. not sure if I have it, but do have constant exhaustion from pain/nausea/lack of real rest-sleep..(a few autoimune disorders and ibs make for a 'sucks to be me' life:eek:)

mj does help me a lot more than Rx drugs, without the nasty side effects...but living in a non-mmj state, and being disabled, makes it tough to get the 'good medicine'.:(

get to the Dr's and assert yourself...don't be rude, just be firm on what ails you and it isn't 'just in your head'....may take awhile, but the root cause can be found in most cases:)

be positive, stand your ground, and if needed, demand they put it all in writing (thus having too commit to a diagnosis or admit they are out of their league, and get you to a specialist):D

  6. Thank you Tijunga that was very informative, hopeful, scary.

I don't know have that article may have affected the rest of you but it kind of made me a little depressed, depressed that I might have a virus that was passed through bodily fluids and my life's expectancy is lowered because of it.:(

  7. The mishandling of chronic fatigue syndrome (and the stupid name it was given by the CDC in 1988) by both the CDC and the NIH is criminal. It's an infectious viral disease. Most people with CFS have Fibro pain, although I don't. In the UK CFS was originally called myalgic Encephalomyelitis or M.E.

I went to a different medical mj dispensary the other day and they were great: much more informative, spent time with me to answer all my questions and make suggestions. They had to talk to my doctor on the phone before I could buy any which I hope to do tomorrow.

I've definitely been sleeping better since I added coconut oil to the gelcap with the pot. It doesn't make the other CFS symptoms any better, but not being massively sleep deprived helps and I'll try some strains that might work for daytime functioning.

  8. I have CFS and FMS too as well as tachycardia, and nausea from that. I feel energized after a medication session too. I get up and clean my house. lol.. Also a little cannabis makes me sleep like a baby and not have sleep paralysis (paresthesia) or unrestful/incomplete sleep cycles. Oddly, it also helps with my digestive issues :smoke:
