Cfl + hps combo- good idea or dumb?

  1. Hey so I've been vegging a 4 week old clone for a week with 150w hps. I also have a pretty small cfl tube that I grew a different seedling with awhile ago. I've been told that hps isn't great for vegging and cfl is better. My cfl is definitely too weak for my plant but can I use it in combination with my hps or will this be too bright? Is too bright even a thing? Thanks in advanced.

  2. Never hurts to add some extra lighting I would use cfl's rated at 6500k

  3. No such thing as to much light, just to much heat.  CFL's give off barely any heat, so use both.

  4. When vegging, you want the blue spectrum of the light, which is a metal halide. Or you can save yourself all kinds of heat, and vent equipment purchases if you just get an LED. No heat, you can put your plants super close to the light, which means closer internodes, and since they have red, blue, and white spectrums you can use them for both vegging and bloom, otherwise you need the hps for blooming. Which sounds better? Having two lights that put off ridiculous heat, or one super light no heat LED? 5. hps has the right spectrum (red) for flowering, but that does not mean it's not good for veg, if you were gonna use one light for the entire grow, hps would be the way to go.
