Caution - one of my poems

  1. So this here is a poem I wrote in Dec. 07. after going on a cruise and meeting an amazing girl from the UK. It was only a 9 day cruise, so more could've happened if I had had more time. I was sad to see her go. Tell me what you think.

*The first line has to do with her, holding a cup of coffee in the cafe, and the way her fingers wrapped around the cup. I'll bold the words so they act as her fingers covering it.*

Caution! The beverage you are about to enjoy is extremely hot.

I laugh to myself at this, and her eyes flutter up to mine, intrigued.

“Oh it's nothing really; I'd explain, but it's pointless now.”

    That look. She insists.

“See, the way your hand grasped the cup made it look like it said…”

    A smile. She laughs.

Again, her eyes meet mine, but this time…

Caution! The beverage you are about to enjoy is extremely hot.

She drops the cup, and my eyes flutter up to hers, concerned.

“Oh it's okay, just a little warm; don't you worry.”

    That tone. I insist.

“Okay, it was quite hot; I'm fine.”

    I smile. She smiles.

Again, her eyes meet mine, and I know.

    She's gone, now.

I don't know if it's the coffee keeping me up at night.
