Canada Legalization

  1. Clearing The Dust: The Canadian Cannabis Industry's Future

Today's Canadian cannabis industry is extremely confused. The Trudeau Government is in the midst of constructing regulations to be rolled out next year for recreational -- or, more accurately, adult non-medicinal purpose -- cannabis.

In the current legal grey zone, corner stores calling themselves dispensaries have sprung up seemingly everywhere, dispensing "medicinal cannabis" and advice to adult "patients," as if they're actually trained and authorized to do so, under the auspices that Canadians have a right to access that is not being sufficiently fulfilled by licensed producers.

In a nutshell, all cannabis industry stakeholders are experiencing a great deal of uncertainty as to exactly what the future Canadian cannabis production and distribution marketplace will look like.

One thing is very clear, however, even in this muddled construction zone: Ultimately, the marketplace will be defined as regulators decide, with input from special interest groups -- large distributors like pharmacies and liquor control boards, the Canadian Medical Association, the Canadian Pharmacists Association etc. -- that have influence in helping to shape the law in their desired direction. Let's face it -- that's just how this works.

  2. Canada pressing forward with marijuana legalization amid U.S. uncertainty

OTTAWA—Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould says the Liberal government is determined to bring forward legislation to legalize and regulate the recreational use of pot this spring, despite the fact it is working overtime to manage many unknowns associated with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Wilson-Raybould says Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale is talking with U.S. counterparts about any potential impacts of the government’s plans.

There are concerns introducing marijuana legislation in Canada could create problems with the U.S.

Wilson-Raybould says the Liberal government is seriously considering a report presented by a special task force late last year.

Among more than 80 recommendations, the panel suggested Canadians 18 and older should be allowed to buy recreational cannabis through storefront and mail-order sales.

The world is watching Canada as it moves to greenlight recreational pot because no other major western country, with the exception of Uruguay, has fully legalized the drug.

  3. Legal Recreational Pot Is Nearer Than You Think

    It's Canada's biggest guessing game.

At least that's the case for about eight million Canucks. Which is how many of us are expected to embrace a looming recreational market for cannabis.

Everybody wants to know when the federal government will finally make this election promise a reality.

Will it be next year? Or could it still be a couple of years away?

I want to know as much as anyone else. And fortunately, I don't have to resort to asking for guesstimates from eternally-optimistic pot aficionados or tipsy businessmen in the bar.

Instead, I'm fortunate enough to have access to the hotshots who run Canada's publicly-traded, industrial-scale growers.

These are the guys whose handful of companies have been entrusted by the federal government with the responsibility of owning a market that will be worth up to $10 billion a year.

  4. awww the suspense.

will it be a peoples legalization or a monopolized legalization?

peoples- how the people want it
monopolized- controlled tighter, or as tight, than the lcbo's operation.

  5. 36 Days until legalization, hey we should start a countdown!

The day is upon us when we will share with our brothers and sisters saying at long last, it's about damn time!

  6. I have a gut feeling that it's gonna be so tight that we're gonna want to tell that effete, lisping, selfie boy to go fuck himself, when all is said and done. And it has been pointed out several times, that nothing will actually come into effect until 2019, which is when they will be voted out for swindling those who voted them in.

  7. pretty much what I feel
that things are going to either be too tight, or going to take a bit longer than 4/20/2017 for something to come of it.

  8. Well said! The government has no authority or say in what its citizens put in their bodies, it has no business in their homes. People are responsible for the outcomes of their own choices. I say we just continue to ignore the legality aspect and just grow our own, share with friends and ignore the politics

  9. I really hope Trudeau doesn't screw this up. But I'm expecting it's poised to be serving his corporate buddies first and foremost when it's legal. We'll see what happens.

  10. After this winter, we will see how they unroll nationwide legalization. Here in BC it has felt legal for many years, as you can buy online from a wide selection and have it shipped to your home. Lots of dispensaries popping up, some require medical evidence, while others do not. This one ships all over the country and so far has not gotten in trouble.

  13. Marijuana economics: predicting Ontario's legal pot market

When you look closely at the projections for recreational marijuana demand once pot is legalized in this country, you have to wonder what some of the analysts are smoking.

The accounting firm Deloitte came up with a headline-grabbing figure of $22.6 billion a year for the Canadian pot industry. That would mean every adult in the country spending nearly $800 annually on weed and related products, and would be more than total annual retail booze sales: beer, wine and spirits combined.

What is the legal weed market really going to be worth in Ontario?

  14. Or they pad the numbers on everything knowing the majority isn't going to bother crunching them.

  15. Salutations,

Sorry for the unilingual content but can we expect mass-media feedback on this "scientific" event scheduled to be held at Marriott hotel (in Montréal/Qc) next month??

There are going to be some High-Profile prohibitioni$t warriors out there. Imagine, Marie-Ève Morin besides Didier Jutras-Aswad on a same day!...

For additional feedback what the implications coud be now here's the "news" on last year's "scientific" gathering:

[ Légalisation de la marijuana : des experts américains mettent en garde le Canada ]
    (2016-Oct-26)

« À quelques semaines du dépôt du rapport du groupe de travail sur le cannabis, un congrès international sur les questions de dépendance s'est tenu dans la plus grande discrétion dans un hôtel Marriott de Montréal. »

Then this, coming soon to Niagara/On (Oct. 19-21):

2017 CSAM Annual Meeting and Scientific Conference – Niagara Falls, ON
    October 19, 2017 - October 21, 2017

« The Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine (La societe medicale canadienne sur l’addiction) welcomes you to our Annual Meeting and Scientific Conference October 19 through October 21 in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Our 2017 conference will build on last year’s conference, our most successful so far, by highlighting new research findings, sociopolitical ideas and treatment approaches to addictions. “Addiction: The Changing Landscape” is this year’s theme as it reflects evolving shifts in addiction issues in Canada. Our conference will address the many challenging issues in addiction medicine: the changing legislative landscape and rapidly evolving research on marijuana; the medical and public health crisis in the opiate epidemic; the potential re-emergence of tobacco addiction through electronic delivery devices (E-cigarettes and vaping), and other emergent issues in addictions.

  16. Its been a long journey, with recreational dispensary locations being announced late last year it will be interesting to see how the few first stores keep up with the demand. We are still months away from being able to purchase legal marijuana, and being able to grow it, but I have to say I am damn proud to be Canadian and hope to see everyone on Parliament Hill this year for 4/20. Should be the best one yet!!!

    Salutations Dankness420,

It's not the end of the road neither, meanwhile lets see what we got so far.

Not necessarily in strict timely order.

Harper era: further criminalization for possession of a handul plants

Trudeau's "Légaleezation": Amplify criminalization by reducing the amount of plants allowed

Mandatory prison sentences in both cases.

Harper era: Hire Hilary Geller as (anti-cannabic) "marihuana" guru

Trudeau's "Légaleezation": Keep Harper's legacy in place then send Hilary Geller as Canada's emissary to organize UNGASS 2016 ("4-20"!!) - an international event which actually met severe criticism from high-profile UN insider Louise Arbour and peers the very next day, while Justin was having a photo cession wearing boxer gloves.

Sending socio-toxic "messages" in both cases, like H.-C. telling the mother of a 6yr old boy to make him SMOKE his prescription instead of using oil. Or under SuperPéteux the denial of cannabis as a dietetic supplement (never heard of raw juicing nor CBD i guess...)!

Harper era: Extradition of Marc Emery to serve 5 years in prison, over selling seeds!

Trudeau's "Légaleezation": Murder in disguise of Bony Jean-Pierre by SPVM-GTi POLICE agent
Christian Gilbert, over 8 oz not even belonging to his dead victim in Montréal "Noir" PQ: a "ballistic" weapon was used within unsafe range aiming directly at the head...

    E. G. Very durable prejudice in both cases.

Harper era: To please bigot anti-cannabic prohibitionists in multiple socio-toxic ways

Trudeau's "Légaleezation": « Not to please recreational users » (with disdain body language), enhancing Harper's vilification with 13 CDSA revisions (so far!), pretending we still need some "Cannabis Act" somehow!...

SELF-SERVING LIAR, in a house of distortion mirrors!

    So, wake up, Cendrillon!!

    :coffee:

With production cost near 89 ¢/g and Québec's Greenhouse Producers ready to provide quality tracking as with chrysanthemums for just 2.50 $/g, euh... M'well it seems to me that 5 $/g is at Mafia-height already, hence 8+ $/g is much more about speculation & taxes than "saving" the lost (statistically ellusive) children of planet Itnoc!!

In The Name Of Children!...

A privilege denied by Lucie "Nex-Rouge" Charlebois in the the province of Québec, because she's worried her grand-children might be tempted to eat fresh/raw cannabis found in the gardens of strangers...

All government levels contributed to rise shame to a socio-toxic level since the special senarotial commitee of Pierre Claude Nolin in 2002...

IMO one of us lives in some alternate reality called "fake news"!

Here's my perspective on that peculiar reality anyway:
