Can you put mylar on top of the soil to reflect light?

  1. I was wondering if putting mylar around the plants stem like a collar, completely surrounding the top layer of the soil basically. Would that reflect good light or would that possibly cause hot spots???

  2. People do it all the time to prevent algea.

  3. Just keep an eye on the underside of the leaves and you'll be fine. Also, try not to cut off the air supply to the soil with the mylar.

  4. this also helps to keep out fungal gnats that would otherwise lay eggs in the soil and feed off the root tips, just allow some room for air flow
