Can I get medical for TMJ? (jaw disorder)

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by noob with an rs, Mar 31, 2007.

  1. hey guys, I've had TMJ for a couple of years now. TMJ stands for temporo mandibular jaw disorder. Basically, my jaw hurts like crap and there are several symptoms. The symptoms i get, however, are that my jaw tends to hurt in the morning, on the left side specifically. It feels VERY tense in the mornings or if i dont eat or stretch my jaw over a period of time it will feel very tense. Also, when i bite down, the right side of my jaw bites down first. In other words, it feels like the left side of my jaw is hanging. When I bite down, it feels like the left side of my jaw is swollen or inflamed. I don't know how i got it but am told it is either the result of biting down or grinding my teeth under stress, or from a sports injury (such as getting punched in the jaw). When I move my jaw left and right I can hear a clicking noise in my jaw's joint and it feels very tense and resistant to do so. I've only been to the doctor once (this was about a year ago) and he prescribed me some muscle relaxants that lasted about a month. After this prescription was up I never went back to see him but the TMJ never got better. From my research, it seems TMJ will either be temporary or permanent. I think it has got to the point where it is permanent. I think it may be too late for me to fix my jaw I never had money for surgery and im only 22. I have been a marijuana user for a very long time now and was wondering if i could get a prescription for my condition. Im not sure if it actually supresses the pain itself, but i DO know that i dont even think about my jaw when sedated. When Im high it doesnt bother me. But if I am sober and think about it it kinda feels worse. I dont have health insurance and ive only been tot he doctor once about this condition. what should I do??

  2. but where do u live?

  3. not sure if you can get the medical marijuana for the TMJ but i feel your pain... its a very odd sensation and not in a good way. my jaw POPS when i am eating recently and that is it... it ruins the meal it hurts so bad that i lose my appetite. i dont know how i got it either but it was all of the sudden and its very uncomfortable it feels like my jaw is out of alignment alot of the time. i hope you find some relief from that... i am going to have to do something very soon it is harshing my mellow BIGTIME

  4. I'm sorry, I forgot to mention I live in san diego, california

  5. you can get medical marijuana for anything in california... even anorexia california medical marijuana laws are a joke

  6. haha thats good to hear i guess. what do I need to do to go about getting one? I mean its not as easy as going to some doctor and saying i need marijuana prescribed to me is it??? do i tell them i use marijuana and think it helps me get by better? i dont know what exactly they want to know or who to even go to?

  7. Yea well this is why we have such a problem. People are trying to get cards without a legit use for it. NO NEED TO TO WORRY THO!!!! all you people who are reading this and have cards for a real legit use, Doctors are now forcing people to bring in medical records. Some doctors never needed medical records as they just thought the patient was telling the truth about their ailment. Well since these laws are a joke to you, many people abused the power and people got rec's that shouldnt have. But everything will be changing.
And oh yea, you live in San Deigo man, lol, thats like one of the worst place to live for MMJ. They dont have much respect for the medical marijuana community and think that almost everyone is doing the devils work, just by smoking. But hey, good luck in your findings and im sorry about your TMJ, sounds painful

  8. how can i get medical records for my TMJ? i went to a private family doctor ONCE last year and he just prescribed me some muscle relaxants.. I dont think he expected my TMJ to be as sever as it is.. i dont want to go back to him if hes just going to do the same thing.. Ive never been to a hospital about my TMJ because quite frankly, i dont think a hospital has anything to offer me except X-rays and surgery which is about 10000x more dollars than the amount i have in my pocket :(

  9. That's what happens when the powers behind prohibition laws try to squeeze some sense out of a fundamentally messed up system, rather than just starting from scratch as they should...

I know that's not what this thread is about, I apologize, I just had to say that.

  10. Go to a doctor that specializes in Medical Marijuana reccomendations, tell him your symptoms and how Marijuana helps you relieve the pain/uncomfort and be as real as you can. If its as bad as you describe it, it shouldnt be to hard. Pay the doctor for the reccomendation, and head on over to the nearest dispensary.

  11. yes you can i just got mine i have been living with this chronic jaw pain for years and weed seems to be the only cure. i got a 6 month recomendation. then i have to come back with a jaw doctor letter of diagnosis to renew my recomendation good luck. try migrains you might get a year recomendation . tmj does lead to them you know but just say you always had them for as long as you can remember good luck. 12. I have tmj, but it was never very severe. I dont know about medical though, but I feel ya. I get migranes though, so thats how I get my medical. I hate it when people say they get migranes, but they are on no sort of medication and its not a condition their dr. has told them they have, they dont know the real pain.

  13. Hey noob with an rs. i live in san diego also and i had TMJ for a couple of months after i had a jaw sugery. it's gone now but i had a lot of the same symptoms as you have. i bet you can get MJ for TMJ, if not, there is a good jaw specialist on 1st avenue by the airport but he's kinda pricey.

  14. I live in San Diego as well but used to live in northern California. I also have TMJ / jaw pain and am trying to deal with this problem. If anyone who was TMJ would be interested to talk about it I would appreciate it as I used to smoke marijuana quite a bit a few years ago but have since stopped completely. I think I have had this TMJ problem for a long time but it has been getting worse,

I almost wonder now if part of the reason I used to smoke weed so much was because of the TMJ (it does this thing to me where its kind of hard for me to make facial expressions, smile, etc). I'd like to figure out what the smallest amount I could use is to get the effect as I think it could work for this problem.

  15. I will definitely be getting my medical card for TMJ after I move. I had my jaw broken about 6 years ago, and this combined with a crossbite, and a anxiety related jaw clench, it truly bothers me all day every day, with constant stings and pain.
