CA: Governor Brown vetoes SB 847!

  1. this is great, don't live in california but anything to help the cause. :bongin:

  3. While this is good news, and I would consider it a "victory", I don't think it signals any new support for MMJ on the part of Governor Brown.

As he mentioned in his veto message, he had already signed AB 1300 into law, giving city and county governments more power to regulate dispensaries. Signing SB 847 into law would contradict AB 1300, since it would amount to a form of regulation by the state.

It is important, however, that the MMJ community in CA spoke out against this bill, and the community's voice was influential in deciding the fate of this bill.

Anyone who is interested should click on the link in the blog and view the ASA's draft state legislation. Some of the things it does include:

    • Defines dispensaries, delivery services, cultivators, manufacturers, etc...
    • Prohibits bans and explicitly permits sales by collectives.
    • Reschedules cannabis (state level).
    • Protects patients in regards to housing, employment, and organ transplants.
    • Permits reciprocity.

Passing this legislation would be a huge victory for MMJ supporters in CA.
