    Do I have to have a ballast for a 70 watt hps

    150 hps watt???

    250 hps watt???

    yeah cause they run on a different current than your standard lights. your ballast converts your 120v circuit to a 220w.

    without the ballast your light wont work and you risk a serious fire hazard.
