If this healthcare bill goes through, you're not going to have any other options.

    Friday, November 06, 2009

Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.

In response to the JCT letter, Camp said: “This is the ultimate example of the Democrats’ command-and-control style of governing – buy what we tell you or go to jail. It is outrageous and it should be stopped immediately.”

Key excerpts from the JCT letter appear below:

“H.R. 3962 provides that an individual (or a husband and wife in the case of a joint return) who does not, at any time during the taxable year, maintain acceptable health insurance coverage for himself or herself and each of his or her qualifying children is subject to an additional tax.” [page 1]

“If the government determines that the taxpayer’s unpaid tax liability results from willful behavior, the following penalties could apply…” [page 2]

    - - - - - - - - - -

    Criminal penalties

Prosecution is authorized under the Code for a variety of offenses. Depending on the level of the noncompliance, the following penalties could apply to an individual:

    • Section 7203 – misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year.

    • Section 7201 – felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.”
    [page 3]

When confronted with this same issue during its consideration of a similar individual mandate tax, the Senate Finance Committee worked on a bipartisan basis to include language in its bill that shielded Americans from civil and criminal penalties. The Pelosi bill, however, contains no similar language protecting American citizens from civil and criminal tax penalties that could include a $250,000 fine and five years in jail.

“The Senate Finance Committee had the good sense to eliminate the extreme penalty of incarceration. Speaker Pelosi’s decision to leave in the jail time provision is a threat to every family who cannot afford the $15,000 premium her plan creates. Fortunately, Republicans have an alternative that will lower health insurance costs without raising taxes or cutting Medicare,” said Camp.

According to the Congressional Budget Office the lowest cost family non-group plan under the Speaker’s bill would cost $15,000 in 2016. \t\t\t \t\t \t \t
So basically we're being robbed at gunpoint, except instead of thugs with guns and bullets it's jail cells and rich assholes stealing your money.

If we don't give them our money (isn't the recession they've caused stressful enough?) they're going to TAKE the money. Don't have enough to pay them? Don't worry, they'll just take it out of your paycheck until your debt is paid.

    Smile, your government loves you.

  2. except going from the quotes you posted, it's an option between:

    1. health insurance
    2. a new mandate tax of roughly 2.5% of income
    3. imprisonment and fines

a health-insurance mandate is an absurd idea but the way it actually is is absurd enough. there's no need to go exaggerating things.

  3. They would not have put imprisonment in there if they were not planning on using it.

The bill is a complete fail. There are new taxes on everything from procedures, exams, surgeries, prescriptions and prosthetics. Hospitals and doctors get hosed. Costs will go up and the level of care will go down.

  4. What the fuck is this shit? Wowww

Because it's a plot against people who can't pay 2.5% higher taxes?

  6. Why the fuck do I have to have health insurance if I don't want it? The only person that poor decision affects is me... if the industry wasn't so regulated and rigged for the benefit of the insurance companies the whole idea of insurance on health would be moot and health care would be obtained in the same way we pay for food... exactly as we had been doing for the thousands of years before health insurance companies.

Stealing is wrong, even if the US government does it.

Hey man, i'm not calling you out, but do you have a link? I want to read this more and pass it on.

If they intend to do so, I'll be going to prison thank you very much.

And this current bill does not do nearly enough to help consumers. If it were a perfect world, the bill is meant to lower costs for insurers, which we would hope they would pass on to consumers. Well guess what, in a capitalistic society that shit will not happen. The CEO of BlueCross wants to get his child a new private jet for his sweet 16 on mtv. Lets make this a reality!

What a fucking joke of a society we live in.

  9. How about video of Pelosi?

  10. Exactly. You either have no government involvement or total government involvement. This half socialist, half capitalist system is a complete failure.

Granted I do very much believe a fully socialized health care system is ideal, a fully capitalist health care system could still fair well; well enough to keep people healthy for a reasonable cost at least.

If this is the US' idea of slowly converting to a fully socialist system, then so be it, baring a few years of inadequacy might be worth it. Unfortunately, I highly doubt that is what's going on here at all.

  11. The reason that capitalism is struggling is because there are people here and all across the globe who have been undermining it.

The shift away from the free market in to socialism is happening all over the planet.

Unfortunately socialism is an abomination and it will never work because it does not allow for any real human freedom. Under the new system individual rights have to be given up and all rights granted to government.

  12. I personally am going to go to jail. I refuse to submit to government tyranny.

  13. I personally consider socialism to be a disease of the mind, like schizophrenia. Someone who would willing accept slavery and mastery over their lives by others and call it the greatest thing ever must be crazy.

  14. Agreed. :bongin:

  15. Yeesh, the paranoia in this thread is astonishing.
So what exactly is the point of that cartoon supposed to be? We shoulda never freed them damn black people, you knew all along they'd only stab us in the back?

  16. US is turning to the European way of doing things... LOL..

Tragic really when you think that your ancestors ran away from Europe..

Dont worry guys its not going to be all that bad..

The poor people wont take over...

    LOL...

  17. Americans should resist socialism if they want to remain free.

Believe it or not, we used to fight communism and socialism here in America; I was there. :smoke:

    WOLVERINES!

  19. same government, same president, different color, different type of slavery.

when you have people paying 50% of their income to government, you know something is wrong, when you die and there is a new tax on 50% of everything you own after you die, you know there is something wrong, unless this is some-how considered fair, justifiably considering an evil terrorist is on the loose with SCARY!!!! weapons, more than something is wrong.

America literally, honestly, is brainwashed by the media, the television, the stereotypical vision of what they think life should be. The same corporations push the propaganda through television shows, media, commercials, just planting seeds in the mind of the typical white male, or female, or their ideals, a lot of ways it can go and influence an individual. Now we're trading our freedom for more taxes for random immigrants who are going to become citizens eventually.

  20. WHOA WHOA WHOA i may have read that wrong but did you say you WANT america to be a socialist country????holy shit man whats wrong with you
