Whatap my green smokaaas? I have an intense passion of joining the military once i get out of college. I want to either be in army or marines and try out for special forces. I recently spent a week down in VA doing non-commissioned spec ops training with Ex-Navy Seals and Army Rangers. IT was a painful, crazy, and rough experience but i can easily say i have never had more fun in my entire life. I Was wondering if anyone else wants to enlist or if anyone is considering it. .
I've definitely considered it. However, medically I don't think I'd cut it. It's not that I'm out of shape, don't get me wrong. I play soccer and do long distance runs 3-5 times a week. It's just that I know they are very strict and they probably wouldn't want to accommodate a special diet and other needs. I've still been looking into the police force, however, perhaps SWAT? Anyway, that's only a secondary interest if going to school for engineering doesn't work out.
If it floats your boat, go for it mang. Personally, I'm going to freak if I get another phone call, email, or letter from them asking me to join. I said no in three different forms of communication for a reason.... lol.
I actually just joined the Air Force. I leave in November because thats when I get my associates degree in electronics. I'm hella excited to leave. I cant wait to start a new chapter in my life. Unfortunately Mary Jane will not be in that chapter because the Air Force is hella strict with DT's because you cant be high while working on a 500 million dollar piece of machinery.
I myself would only join the military if there was a real threat to my country, like in WWII. None of this Oil Wars bullshit.
Ive been thinking about it but i dont no. I will probably join the AiR Force but i have bad eyesight and cant be a pilot, so ill end up being a mechanic or somthing like that. My stepdad in the marines said to join the Air Force because its just alot better but i dont no yet, ill see how the economy is doing in a few months and then ill make my decision, better to join up then not have a job at all.
If you are planning on enlisting here are a few things you should know that the recruiter probably won't tell you. Plan on just being Infantry (11B or 11X). A very very small percentage of recruits make it through RIP and Ranger school. The drop outs (which there are A LOT of) stay Infantry. I can't really speak for the Marines, but it probably works the same way with Recon. Also, if you are planning on going 18X (Spec. Forces) the training is more intense, you have to learn two foreign languages, they are allowed to break one minor and one major (bones) and even if you graduate, it doesn't guarantee any of the Special Forces units will pick you up. If you do enlist in the Army and go 18X or 11B with a Ranger contract, your Drill Sergeants will be more inclined to fuck you up on a daily basis. That's what I did. EDIT: It'll be good that you are graduating college before you enlist, you'll automatically rank up to Specialist (E4) if you go in with a degree.
