Working at a steak house as well, not really fine dining though, which is what I learned. Looking for something new as we speak. Southern Ontario here.

Its different up here. I learned an extreme amount in a short time frame(4 months). I had an amazing experience and I'll be honest didn't pay a cent for it.
I've been a chef for the last 4+ years now. Initially started out as a job to help me through college (beer/weed/fun money). Now I've got my Bachelors degree in something other than culinary, yet I'm still working as a cook haha. I don't see myself working in this industry for my whole career but I am absolutely loving it for the time being. I work in pub/restaurant in a busy tourist town of upstate New York. I've met some awesome people in the kitchen, lifelong friends. I've learned soooo much about food and cooking from kitchen managers and other long time cooks. At this point in my life, I always make myself homemade meals at home and thoroughly enjoy making myself food from scratch whether it's just for me or 6 other people. There's nothing better than whipping up some bomb-ass pasta or steaks and seeing your GF, friends, and/or family enjoying the shit out of every bite. Cheers, fellow cooks
I want to become a chef! I love working with food and learning new tricks. Trying to decide where to start

obviously depends on the restraunt but its same shit to a degree. its extremely tough u have to have natural talent,be tough, handle pressure, work safely, work efficiently. especially at a classy restraunt like the one i work at holy bro pressure is insane u gotta memorize specifications to a T. u gotta make sure to restock, talk to ur lines members, sous chefs, head chefs. focusing on ticket times and food costs and on top of that u gotta make sure ur station is cleaned by the time the supervisor wants u out by. and they obviously check and about once a month youll probably need to do full station cleans with the hood vents and all ovens etc. on top of all that u gotta be able to get rid of that mind set of being scared of gettig hurt. ps if u dont read this ill be mad cheesed
So, is it worth it? The money for the time. Do you have to work nights? I have dogs so its impossible for me to leave them until when they go to sleep.
heres how the industry goes bro u cut urself to the point of needing stitches and wrap it up and ur back to work in 5minutea even though u need to go to the hospital u dont want to abandon ur team to pick up ur slack
mmm u can only answer that for urself. for me yes its worth the time since u learn life skills there too. i work all nights personally but that depends on where u work .
