Amsterdam

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by Big_Bud, Jun 5, 2012.

  1. Hey everyone, me and my friends all want to go to Amsterdam this year and was wondering if anyone had an places they would reccommend staying at in the way of accomodation.
Looking for somewhere thats reasonably priced, not too bothered whether its fancy, just want somewhere thats safe and isn't too far from the centre.
Has anyone stayed in a hostel there? If so can you tell me what it was like and how it worked sharing with other people and prices?
Also can anyone suggest the best places to go for a smoke?
    Thanks alot guys.

  2. bulldog cafe is supposed to be the best shop and second id say greenhouse seed co has bomb ..
as far as places to stay idk

  3. nice. I'm going to be in Europe this fall and I want to hit up amsterdam, of course :smoke:

never been before though, so I cant be much help

  4. Are they reasonably priced in comparisson?

  5. Im going amsterdam in july. Its quite expensive there so it was hard to find cheap accomodation. My friends and I are students so dont have alot of money. The cheapest hostel we found was Has Brinker Budget Hotel, is it very budget and the reviews seem bad but were not really that bothered. It costs us £450 for 6 nights in a 3 bed room. They have large dorms of up to 8 people which is slightly cheaper but we wanted our own room so we can blaze in there :smoking::smoking:

Its right in the centre of amsterdam aswell which is a good factor.

  6. Only been once although going back next month, stayed in the International Budget Hostel.
Great location, a minute from Leidseplein, about 10 from Vondelpark and if you're going in the summer, thats an amazing place to toke and chill and consume some magic unmentionables. Price was good value too 20euros a night which is competitive for Amsterdam.

It was basic accommodation, but who stays in their accommodation in amsterdam other than to pass out?

This year im nearer the museum district, closer to vondelpark, but further from Leidseplein and the city centre which will be a shame :( With the tourist ban coming in i felt prices rose this year and places filled up quickly, so im not sure how youre going to fare.

We only had 1 other person in our room who moved on the day we arrived and then we had to room to ourselves.

Hostelworld and hostelbookers and both great comparison sites

Other than that, have (and you will) a great time if you do go, and if you don't, you'll regret it forever if this ban stays. :)

  7. About the bulldog and the greenhouse, its very hit and miss, i think it caters for a certain person.

These are the two very commercialised coffeeshop chains, and their product and vibe represents this. The product can be hit and miss, ive heard about underweighting/poor quality compared to other places. The vibe is meant to be great for meeting other tourists, but if locality is what you want check out some other places.

Saying this though, this is pretty much what ive heard from stories rather than personal experience. I only went once into the Bulldog in Leidseplein, i'd call it a neutral greeting at best but it definitely wasn't welcoming (heard this before many times) bought some weed cant remember what and a small orange juice (which cost about 5euros alone...), though it was damn good juice.

Online Amsterdam Coffeeshop Menus - www.CoffeeshopMenus.org This is a good website for researching beforehand what places have.
Amsterdam Coffeeshop Directory - Cannabis Coffee Shop Guide This is a good website for location of places, ratings and the forum there is a great source of coffeeshop reviews.

  8. Yeah ive always wanted to go but never did and now with this ban grtting closer i just have to go.
I'd say this ban is a joke but there is nothing funny about it. Its a senseless decision.

A little more than a month and it's hello Amsterdam and cannabis Liberation festival <3

Oh and mcherbie. That doesn't count for amsterdam:)

  11. Unless you have a secret source, it comes into effect in A-dam from 1st Jan 2013

  12. Before he posted it was already banned everywhere. I didn't smoke for a couple of days, so I'm pretty certain I didn't imagine that. It's all good tho.

I will believe it when it has happened until then I trust the Dutch to handle this shit and not let their industry go to the shitter. Because lets be honest, they will get way less money and many businesses will go Ito the shitter.

  13. Bulldog is pretty mainstream for smoking I'd source smaller coffee shops. But in terms of accommodation, there or the flying pig are right in central dam, so close to everything.

  14. It looks certain to be passed but I agree that they will lose so much money in tourism, lets face it, people are going there for the amazing architecture and canals.
It will almost certainly increase the crime rate as locals will be buying it to sell to tourists at an exortionate price.
I can't see any positives for the ban. I especially don't think its fair to exclude tourists from smoking weed aswel, it should be everyone gets to smoke it or nobody does.

  15. True, the Dutch are pretty smart when they're not stoned off their asses. Clearly when they passed this law they had had a few too many hits.

Out of interest, does anyone know if the law includes smoking outside of coffeeshops. ie, buying from a local (as said at an extortionate price), and then heading the the beautiful Vondelpark to smoke (almost) legally?

  16. I think the same rule applies when consuming it as buying it.
It would make no sense to let a tourist smoke weed publically if they can't purchase it, for that reason alone it would be pointless in banning it because all the profits would go to local dealers.

  17. Ok, I hope this isn't true but alot of people are saying it. Apprently the ban came into effect on the 1st of may! Can any actually confirm this?
The whole ban itself is bullshit, surely selling to only the dutch is a form of racism?
As for a post earlier, I'm not 100% but I did see a documentary with coffee shop owners who said (years before the ban was even mentioned) that it's always been illegal there its just that it's legal to buy and use in the coffee shop, but not outside in the street although the police seem pretty liberal about people doing that anyway.

  18. It DEFINITELY is not in effect in Amsterdam.
1st January 2013 is the date for there.

And yes it has never been legal. Its a grey sort of area - basically its tolerated, and you won't have a single problem unless you do something stupid. Its even illegal for coffeeshops to have it I believe, but its tolerated, although each coffeeshop can't sell you more than 5g per day.
Its less accepted in the street, but you'll find many people walking around doing so. I personally always went to Vondelpark, found a nice area and lit up, no problems involved.

  19. Actually it was like that, they could hold a certain amount of weed. But they weren't allowed to buy it, they had to find it officially. Atleast that's what I remember from my stays there and the documentaries by greenhouse seeds/Arjan. Check out strain hunters... Awesome trips they make!

  20. Yeah that's what I'd read and thats why I am planning to go but then I saw a few things on the internet and thought 'oh shit'.
Thanks for confirming that it won't be until January.
