American Imperialism is alive and well

  1. Not that I had any sort of doubts or anything. Don't you think America has fucked with Latin America enough in the last fifty years?

Where is the domestic outrage? Or is this another issue that is being smothered by large scale apathy?

  2. It's never going to stop. The day we came to the good ole USA from england we fucked with the indians. Then we took florida, puerto rico, and guam from the Spainairds. Then we took more shit, then exploited more ethnicities for our gain. Then we took every other helpless person and made them work for us for a dollar a day. Fast forward from the 1800's and we're still doing the same shit. I still don't get why we don't want to be friends with Chavez, he has such great influence and he seems reasonable.

  3. Yeah man, I was born in Colombia, and I'm ashamed to admit that my homelands administration is totally on the US cock. Has been for quite a while. Very few of the people in the country have any admiration or even respect for the government. As a matter of fact, I don't know how many people know this, but Pablo Escobar was considered a hero amongst everyone in Colombia but the rich upper class. The US has, over many years of their failed drug war, totally raped the shit out of my country's government, land, and people. I'm glad at least Ecuador and Venezuela are representing for Gran Colombia.

I don't want this to become specifically about Venezuela, but I don't think that Chavez is representative of attitudes of surrounding nations.

Any other input? I would like to hear some commentary from politically active Americans and what they think of the situation. More importantly, I would like to hear what they are actively doing about it, if anything.

I think aside from the current military engagements, this section is severely lacking is analyzing American foreign policy. Lots of folks have read this thread so far, and only two people have commented on it... one of which is personally and directly invested in the issue.

  5. Out of sight, out of mind. I guarantee you, the average American has no sense of the history of American foreign policy in Latin and South America. They might know that we have an embargo in Cuba and that cocaine comes from down there, but that's the extent of mainstream American awareness about the issue. So of course this type of shit won't spark any outrage. For most people, even if they hear about this, they'll have no historical frame of reference to understand what this means.

I personally believe the US should be following more of an isolationist foreign policy, for the first time in many a decade. Not only would it serve the world as a whole better, but it would also ensure our safety and further our prosperity. We're already seeing the effects of the last 60 years of fucking shit up in the Middle East (Iran, being Israel's bitch, terrorism). We're destined to see that same thing happen with Latin/South America if we continue to expand our presence there.

But no, I'm not doing anything about it.

  6. I read your post and thought of how Obama is putting preassure on Honduras to let that jackass back in. Their government got rid of the guy using every legals means possible, and finally had to throw him out. The guy wanted an unlimited term, and was illegally trying to get it passed as law.

What sucks is that the people telling us to stay out of Latin America are the same who are telling us to do something about Honduras.

Chaves with his oil backers in the middle east is leading this thing. He wants Latin America under his thumb. I'd put most of the blame on them.

  7. The only people protesting American imperialism right now are conspiracy theorists and racists, everybody else is on hiatus.

  8. I knew there had to be something I agreed with you about Sam. I think we have found it.

I used to buy all the neo-con pro war BS, hook line and sinker. Protect America, be patriotic, fight terror. What a load of crap.

Oh sure, you can trust Washington...forget about it. :bolt:

Now I have woken up and I see what has really been going on around here.

We will be damn lucky if DC does not turn out to be the 2nd beast of Revelation.

If you want to get really outraged, really smoking hot pissed off, then just watch some of this testimony from former CIA agents.

Go ahead people, see what good old Uncle Sugar has been up to.

I'm sure that the Colombia people will just love having us around.

  9. Isn't it amazing that the drug war is being used to justify this?

    Wait... amazing... no....

predictable. That's the word I was looking for.

  10. Unfortunately, from someone in the United States point of view, the American National Government has completely lost it. Us protesters are now called 'mobs' and 'un-american'. I'm ashamed of what my Government has become completely destroying the American name and country. However, with all this outrage on 'our' Government's spending, not much word has gotten out on this. However I think if you asked most Americans, we wouldn't be very happy to hear that, considering we're in the shitter right now. But we have no say, and our elected officials are telling us to shut up...SHADY. I'm sorry these idiots have control, and I'm sorry the world has to suffer.

  11. that's what i thought was hilarious, wasting money on an airbase to monitor coke from COL, but yea theres an alterior motive.

  12. Don't you Canadians feel all smug about your selves?

Just cause you guys don't have nukes, you think your all peace-able, huh?

Smart enough to stop fighting at the end of world war 2, were you? Well, here's news from your crazy neighbor to the south...

America is the biggest drug user, so we have to control our supply! It's free-market economics, mixed with piracy! That's pure Americana!

What do you suppose we've been doing in Afghanistan? All they have there are Opium and Ganja fields!

    And Iraq has the oil!

You will notice that we always pay for our damages in cash too. Almost as if we were making simple purchases, disguised as wars.

Our troops aren't going to support themselves you know.

I'll give you the new American decoder ring, here's how it works...

If might makes right, we're still farthest to the right of any American Nation.

Nukes makes Superpowers, and we are the Fantastic Four.

Do not expect any sanity from the overly armed thugs of the world.

Sanity will only be mistaken for weakness. Or socialism.:D
