Who would you say invented the automobile? I'll tell you right now that I took a class on the automobile in college and no one would point to a single inventor, it was a series of refinements, different engine types, fuels, etc. And yes, there were several Americans with working products as early as 1895 such as the Duryea Motor Wagon Company and the Olds Motor Vehicle Company. It's not outright false, just incorrect.
