Alternative abrasives?

    Obviously salt is the standby for cleaning pieces but I'm just wondering if there are other common items that can used as an abrasive and if so how successful are they in comparison?

    rice is used sometimes, but it's a BITCH to get back out, especially if you have percs and whatnot.

    For smaller areas i prefer baking soda. I use it in small pipes, bowls.

    Regular ole table salt works perfectly.

    Why exactly?? Salt is cheap as fuck!!!!.... hell even if you don't want to buy some just go to McDonalds or basically any fast food place and take a ass load of salt packets or a salt shaker
