Algae on hydroton

Discussion in 'Advanced Growing Techniques' started by Mordecai, Dec 23, 2007.

  1. I have some algae build up on a small area of hydroton in my drip system. What is causing this and how can I get rid of it and keep it from coming back?

EDIT- I just realized asking how to get rid of it was dumb. Ha

  2. The last time I was at my local hydro shop, I noticed they were selling these little reflective skirts you can place around the base of your plants to keep algae from growing in your rockwool or hydroton. I suppose in principle anything that blocks light will work.

  3. That is the answer.

cover or shade the light from the rocks and the algae will stop.
