  1. No bueno, they need to be included in the option to hide images.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::(

I can't have four huge images of bongs and unmentionables at the top of my webpages while browsing the internet in the living room.

  2. What are you talking about, i don't see any ads, if there are ads there there to help pay for the new server. GC cost allot and every other forum has ads, so now GC is so big they had to put ads up.

It just comes with running a business

I just think it's ironic that i keep seeing marijuanilla and salvia divinorum

But, hey! what are you gonna do? The rules are the rules!

    :)

  4. The ones that say "What have you been missing" or something along those lines at the top of threads now and it has a coupon code. I realise the need for ads, and I don't mind the ads, it's the huge images of bongs, pieces and unmentionables that the ads currently come with that are causing me issues because they aren't covered under the hide images setting in the UserCP. Ad block seems to be working fine, but I'd rather not block the whole ad (in support of GC), so I'm still seeking a solution to be able to just hide the images.

Currently I have to hide the whole table. :(

I don't have any issue with them selling unmentionables. That wasn't the point. lol

Yes, I know....that was my point.....

But, regarding closing the ads.....maybe there could be an X to close the ads, but when you come back with a fresh brower open, the ads are back and you just close them each time......but i don't know if that would be a lot of programming to do

    :)

  6. Oh, I thought you thought I was also complaining about not being able to talk about some of the things they sell, which I have no problem with. lol

The x wouldn't be as good as being able to hide the pics by default. It's the pics popping up every time I reload a page (without adblock) that's the problem. The ads are fine, it's the rather large images I'm having issues with. I could just as easily hide each image every time I get to a new page (like an x would do), but that's inconvenient and still poses the risk of someone in my house taking notice to me looking at bongs on-line. (For the record, I already tried this method lol)

  7. I'll trade you! ;)

I'm using adblock on Firefox and I can only get it to hide the images, but I want to hide the whole ad.

No offense to GC of course, I definitely understand why they're there. I'm just a very impatient clicker and whenever there's an ad on the top of the screen I'm always accidentally clicking on it when it suddenly loads while I'm trying to click something else. :p

  8. Can you find out if GC gets its profit from the bandwidth from the ads or just the ads being there or clicks? I don't want GC to lose profits if I hide them and I'd feel better if I knew me hiding them didn't make any difference.

  9. Well, I could PM SJ or gnik and ask, but I bet they'll probably see this thread before they see their PM box. :p

Since they're ads for the shop, my guess is that the income comes from people seeing the ads and buying something. But that's just my guess, don't quote me on it. :D

  10. The above ads are directly from Grasscity shop. The only way they can bring income is purchasing goods :)

Ads will not be visible to any member who purchases member subscriptions. If you don't want to see ads you can easily upgrade your account.

Ok awesome to hear and ingenious (as in it's great added inventive to purchase a membership)! lol I'm about to get a membership as soon as my debit card arrives in the mail (and I verify I can make international purchases using it)!!! :yay:

  12. Payed members have the unique privilege to not see the ads. Consider it an extra benefit

  13. How long is this ad going to run?

  14. forever, if you don't want it, you'll need to become a paid member.

you know what sucks, paying for a goddamn nice community out of your own pocket with nothing in return, spend 10 bucks on a membership and you are out of your misery....sorry dude I'm really not feeling your pain here.

  17. Honestly it isn't that bad. I've been on other big forums that have sold out big time and are now covered in adds everywhere with big banner adds, scrolling adds, popups etc. At least this add relates to the site itself. I'm sure a popular site like this could make a LOT of money if they accepted offsite adds.

  18. Well there advertising them selves, so it's not that bad. :confused_2:

  19. Right....So if a newspaper runs an ad for Viagra, there should be articles about Viagra in the paper. T.V. channel running an Extenze ad? Should have a half hour sitcom about it...

Feel free to start up your own website and you can enforce whatever rules you want. We're in SJ's house now though, and he gets to decide what is right or wrong here.

Anybody that doesn't like the ads can pay $10.00 a year to make them go away.
