  1. Well, a little background.... I have grown up in a complete anti-drug household, and have always been around my parents when they report smokers to the poilce. When I was young, I just accepted it because I had been taught it was "bad" in school. Well, through my years in High School, I have become more independent of course, and now I believe it should be a legalized drug....but now it's a bit off topic, but that's my background, if you will.

The past senior year in High School was tough for me. My grades dropped like crazy, because I was just crazily stressed out. And I don't know from what exactly, either. All I know is that I would be so stressed that I wouldn't want to think about school, so I would play video games, or surf the web, instead of doing any homework. I neglected alot of other repsonsibilities too, which was really not good, because one of those was my job.

Then recently I tried marijuana for the first time with a friend. It was the most relaxing 3 hours I had had in over 5 years. All that stress just melted away. And for a few weeks after that, I had no problem keeping up with my responsibilities, and I was very stress free. It was awesome, to say the least.

That opened me up to the possibility that I may have some type of stress disorder, but I have never thought about going to a doctor about it. The only things I go to my doctor are for colds/sicknesses. So I don't have any documentation on any stress related "illnesses", if you will.

But after trying marijuana that first time (which was about 1.5 weeks ago), I have been thinking about the possibility of getting a MMJ prescription. But like I said before, I don't have any medical records of my "stress" that I've had the last few years. If I go to my doctor for this issue, it scares me that he will talk to my parents about it, legal or not. He's a close family friend that they have known longer than I've been alive....and if they found out that I believe in the use of marijuana for medical reasons, then they would flip. It sucks, period.

So, basically, I want to know what my options are. Do I have to have documentation for it, or can the MMJ doctor do an extended appointment of some type? I live in Southern California, if that helps.

Thanks in advance for anyones help/input!

  2. just go to another doctor, i'd say. they have doctors that are really chill with getting mmj prescriptions, i imagine

im not an expert on getting a mmj license, but my friend called some place and made an appt. and got his medical card without even going to the doctor

he still has to go to the doctor within 6 months or something, but you should still do it anyway! :smoke:

good luck man, you seem like a nice enough dude

i smoked my first time senior year too, but it was at the beginning of the year, and thats why my grades dropped, haha

  3. Doctor-patient confidentiality ftw.

  4. That's what I mean by legal or not. Not mj in that sentence. I think he would still talk to my parents regardless of the confidentiality. :(

  5. He can lose his job over something like that, he won't do it.

But odds are with no documentation, you won't have much luck.

  6. You're best bet, as hard as it may be, is to talk to your doctor friend. I was once in your shoes and once you've taken a few steps out of that door and realize there are A LOT of people who smoke or have, it's easier to talk to someone like him about it. He has known you for years and would most easily identify with your claim to stress. If you approach him like a level headed adult who is seeking relief from your pain he may be far more compassionate then you'd think. Like you said he's known you you're whole life, he knows you aren't some junky looking to get a card to sell on the streets. I would bet he would help you out and be very discreet about it. He was in college once- it's nearly impossible to remain nieve through college that pot has it's place in the real world too if it was given a proper chance. Plus, he CAN NOT say anything. If he does go to norml.org and find a marijuana friendly lawyer, explain the situation, and watch his retirement savings become yours.

  7. so true guy ^

  8. I've been thinking further about my medical records. I do, every year, get at least 2 earaches. It's been consistent since I was about 13 years old. I have always been prescribed antibiotics, which in my opinion never really helped, because it would still take weeks to go away, and the symptoms never faded from the antibiotics. I'm sure MMJ can help with those symptoms, but I don't know if that is a reason that a MMJ doctor could accept. I'm still mainly interested in it for my stress issues, but the more I have been thinking about it, it would be another plus if it could help me relieve the painful earaches. Like I said though, I only get them about twice a year. I do have records though of the earaches.

I'm trying to avoid going to my doctor if I can....but If I have to, I will.

  9. First of all, if you're under 18, you don't HAVE options- but I'm assuming that's not the case since you're posting here, right? ;) FYI: Minors have less privacy than adults where their medical records and treatment are concerned, and no minor can get an MMJ recommendation without his or her parents signing off on it.

As others have said, it is in your best interest to see your GP or a psychologist first, and discuss your problems with him or her to see if you have a disorder. Once you have a qualifying diagnosis on record, you can take that diagnosis to a doctor who specializes in MMJ and get a recommendation. It's not the fastest way, but it's the right way.

  10. Nope, not under 18. I'm just afraid of rejection I suppose. I don't want to be thought of as a stoner trying to get a recommendation just to get high, since that how it seems all people against MMJ are. If I didn't see him alot, then it would be fine....but he'd still be my doctor after that, and if he refused to recommend me, then it would be hella awkward(understatement) to still go to him for medical needs.

  11. An MMJ doctor usually makes the reccomendation based on your medical records, not your GP.

There isn't much more to tell you though. Get whatever condition you have diagnosed and documented by your GP, then take your records to an MMJ doctor and go from there.

  12. You don't ask your GP for a recommendation, you ask your GP what's wrong with you, and get a record of your diagnosis. You then take that diagnosis to an MMJ specialist and get your recommendation based on that. Your GP never has to know.

But yeah, as Modder said, that's pretty much all there is to it, not much more we can tell you.

  13. YOUR PARENTS ARE FAGGOTS!!!:mad::eek::eek::eek::confused::confused::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke:

    Just playin
    not really tho
but foreal just say you got what you got and it should be cool. try to classify it though so you can somewhat have an idea of the reason you are getting your card is. like anxiety i guess

Bitch, for someone with all of 3 posts, that was a remarkably insensitive and unwarranted thing to say. The OP's parents may need re-education eventually, but to cast aspersions on their sexual orientation is not too cool. Those are the OP's parents, who even with all their faults, are loved by the OP.

Incidentally, do you even know the origin of that term? A "fagot" is a piece of wood meant for burning. During the middle ages, homosexuals were burnt alive at the stake, along with witches, gypsies and assorted heretics. (Next time you burn your finger lighting a joint, think of that pain all over your body.) I find the term very offensive- and to make it worse, you misspelled it. You betray not only your own insensitivity, but your lack of education. Please use a dictionary next time, and grow up!

For the original poster, please take a look at my list (link is below) for some help in "re-educating" your parents. Since they believe the propaganda, it is going to take a while before they get the idea. But studies from PubMed (where your doctor gets his info) are hard to argue with. If they have any medical conditions, look for those. The list is stickied, so it is easy to find.

I would also suggest that you simply find another doctor- you are 18, and can do that. Even if the new doctor just gives you some tranqs, that will be enough to get a recommendation with most clinics.

  15. Yea, my parents are great people. They have always been supportive of my hobbies....but this ones a bit different. They have always believed that marijuana will only screw you up. I've been slowly, very slowly, saying things in favor of it whenever it's mentioned on the news or such, especially when I have found that it has helped me the one time I have tried a small amount of it.

  16. You shouldn't worry about it just consul to doctor
