A Question About T5 Light Sizing And Tent

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by Burplekush, Jun 16, 2013.

  1. Hey Gc, I have a question regarding if the secret jardin darkstreet 2 (24x24x54) will fit any t5 lighting that are 2 ft as almost all have a length of 25-26.5 inches lengthwise? If So im left with the option of finding another lighting system (led) unless you blades who have used the secret jardin might think it will be possible to shove that light in there without any real hassle .. What you guys think? Thanks for your time. Burplekush

Why not go HID?  A 250 or 400W light is perfect for that space and will be much cheaper than going T5 or LED and will give MUCH better results.

  3. Thanks for your response Shiva . See i have a flowering tent and i am trying to remodel as i have so much unused space in my flowering tent which is 48x24x60 and has a 400 w hps/mh for flowering so i was going to get another tent so i could veg in because right now i have a diy bucket grow room i made ( ghetto) and i want to replace it in my closet and i have just 24x24x60 to do it. I was looking at t5's for the saving on electricity and to get something just good enough to veg as i have been fine with 4-6 small plants under 2 full spectrum t5 HO and im getting sick of it. Im really just high and running in circle because now i want to switch my hps with t5 and put that too veg .... i dont know where i am getting at,but do you really think it will give better results as i have been changed to a believer after seeing some of these t5's people are using for veg. Or maybe i didnt make it clear this is for vegging. hahaha sorry im out of it  :hippie:

It depends what T5 you are looking at....some of those suckers eat a lot of power too, so not sure how much you'd be saving on electricity, it would depend.   You also have to factor in the purchase cost, the HO t5 rigs aren't cheap!    Anyhow, I know people have had great results vegging with T5's, but if heat is not an issue, I'm confident you'd get a lot faster veg with HID.

I have a similar veg space and employ a switchable/dimmable 600 W HID.   During veg, I run MH bulbs and dim it down to 250 W for the first couple of weeks after germination, then I up it to 400 W once the plants are bigger.   Right before I throw the plants into flower, I blast them with the full 600W for a week or so.   This method has worked great for me, and also allows me to regulate my power usage....I am only using what the plants need based on their size.     My space is cool and I have lots of ventilation, so I can get my air-cooled hood super close, and I get explosive vegetative growth and lush green plants that are super bushy with very tight node spacing.    I top a few times and use LST, and after a 5 week veg I end up with plants that are 12-16" tall plants with 8-12 tops with a ton of bud sites, and that are as wide and bushy as they are tall.    Using this method, my plants are getting WAY more lumens from my MH lamp at a nice close distance than they would from any T5 unit.   As a result, they are obviously going to grow faster and stronger.

T5's are definitely useful is applications where space and heat are serious issues, but if you don't have space or heat probems, I'd recommend a dimmable MH rig for veg.   Cheap initial investment, you control how much juice you are using, and most importantly maximum lumens for your plants.   More lumens = faster veg = more robust plants = faster and bigger harvest.    Just my 2 cents  :)

  5. Thanks for your time Shiva and i really appreciate it. Well see my Flowering tent in my closet reaches 84 during summer and so i want to make another veg tent so when im flowering i can play around with some more lst and fimming in the process while i am waiting for other crops to harvest. See and this is where i get confused as i am thinking of setting up the other tent but if i were to have hid lighting in place i would  heat my apartment up and i need to keep it as cool as can be. So THats what brought me to t5 lighting for a 2x2 space which will be next door to my other tent. See i am leaning towards t5 since like you said heat and space will be an issue which leads me onto my next question which would be what sizing fixture would be able to fit or if hid was out of the question what sizing fixture or other light system could be plausible.

  6. No probs man.  Everyone's situation is different....if space and heat are an issue, than T5's are a great option for vegging, lots of guys/gals here use em with fantastic results.   I've never personally used them, so I can't help much, but I'm sure all the info you need can be found in the Lighting sub-section of the forum.  Good luck and happy growing!   :)
