This post is for folks that haven't been following my grow journal.  Just wanted to show off what organic growing can do for a newb.  Today I broke out the heavy photo gear while I had the plants out of the grow room.  Here is one of my Northern Storm Auto Fem's started from seed about 49 days ago.  They have 10 more days by the seedbank's numbers.  Waiting on my loupe to arrive...

I can't believe how easy doing this organically is.  I'll never bother doing hydro now.  Glad I never started.

  2. I need your photo gear! I'd love to take pics like that. I keep a photo journal more so than a written journal, just notes. Great shots! Post some over in Bud Shots sub-forum, I have a few there...

    Thanks!

I  thought I had seen a Bud Shots forum! I'll do that.

Used a Nikon D700, a couple different lenses, and a beauty dish & reflector for lighting on these.

  5. protip: use macro pictures to check trichomes.

  6. I have a few macro pics, but I'm still getting familiar with my camera specifically and camera effects in general. I've already learned a few tricks with weed pics, but then again, I got the camera on Xmas and I only take pics of weed so....

  7. Yes very nice pictures applaud!

Organic soil is very easy yes?

You will soon see hydro is superior indoors if you try it. Flushing hydro is easy. Organic soil shouldn't need flushing but newbies always fawk it up.

    Good luck.

  8. I've tried that with my 90mm macro lens, but it just isn't enough magnification. Somewhere I have a reversing ring that should get me there though.

    Sent from somewhere over there.
    No, not there...over THERE.

  9. Most people here aren't looking for "superior" growing methods. It's not the point of organics.

I use a cheap point 'n' shoot set to macro and the highest resolution possible. Take the photo with as sharp a focus as you can, then digitally zoom in on the image file. You should be able to see the trichome color clearly, it's really badass.

  10. What's the point if you are wasting time producing mediocre? Why not produce the best possible.

If you're a newbie then go soil organic for a couple grows to learn the  plant. You will know what im talking about once you have more experience under your belt.

In my mind, and many peoples' minds, organically grown bud is higher quality than hydro.  I would be willing to bet a large chunk of money that well-grown organic would beat well-grown hydro in a blind taste test, for both flavor and potency.  Not to mention the heavy metals, EDTAs, and other synthetic gunk that comprises almost all hydro additives.  And the cost of all those bottles.  And time spent mixing 'veg' and 'flower' nutes and pH'ing.  But hydro produces more quantity.  Each person's definition of 'mediocre' depends on your goals and preferences, I suppose.

    Welcome to GC Organics, Phil

  12. As you mentioned, organic needs no flushing. Organic also doesn't have to worry much about pH. Or absolute water quality. Or any of a dozen other things.

And as a total newb, I haven't managed to fawk it up too bad yet. But I will give hydro (of all variations) it's due. If you are looking for top yields and quickest production and have the time and attention to detail needed, it is the way to go.

Pretty sure as a personal grower I'm gonna be just fine, thank you.

    Superior in what way?

That method makes people spend more money sourcing materials from others and energy making adjustments that aren't needed in a living soil system. That method also supports throwing materials and resources away faster than 'organics', like the idea of tossing your media out after a grow and "flushing" how many gallons of water per plant to waste. It's also lacking in various enzymes, hormones, PGRs,  microorganisms and a decent cation exchange capacity in comparison, just to start a list.

All that extra money, time and effort spent just to emulate what nature already does best...save yourself some money and start reading a few threads here Phil. You may actually learn something.

I'm not a fan of gimmicks and most of the hydroponic nutritional products are just that; cheap waste products that are sold for exorbitant prices.

One question Phil - what does flushing actually do and why is it necessary?

  15. Chef, nice pics dude. Good job.

Im trying to figure where youre going with this... so youre saying that the hydro buds are superior and that organic is mediocre?

If so, could you please elaborate?

  17. Well except for all the people I see in the organics forum saying they'll never go back to hydro after tasting their first organic grow. And these are not newbies, but long time growers.
