A Few Key Notes

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Dread7Green, Nov 18, 2006.

  1. Important things to note..

    Germinating:
•\tWater needs to be bottled or distilled.
    •\tUse a Tupperware container.
•\tGet 5 Pieces of paper towel. Wet all w/ Luke Warm water, not to the point of dripping.
•\tPlace Them in the container, 3 layers on bottom, seeds, 2 layers on top.
•\tPlace Container in a warm dark place. Warm= room temp. not hot.
•\tCheck Seeds 2x daily. Fan in Fresh Air. Lots of it. Do Not Touch Seeds
•\tIf paper towel is dry mist water on towels. Do not drown them
•\tEventually Small White thing will emerge from seed. This is root tip.
•\t^ Do not let grow to long, or touch/poke it or let it dry out.
•\t^If root tip gets too long our curls it is more likely to get damaged.
•\t^ Now go get all supplies ready. Soil, Pots, etc.
•\tPlant in containers at least 6” Deep W/ Lots of drainage holes.
•\tSoil should be Loose and not too lumpy.
•\tDo not fertilize the seeds They have what they need for about 21 days.
•\tWater the pot with soil well. Set it aside and let it drain for 10-15 minutes.
•\t^ Take Pen/Screwdriver and make a small impression in middle of pot.
•\tPlace seed 1” Deep into soil. No More, No less.
•\tBe Very Gentle moving seed to pot. Try to get white root tip pointed down.
•\t^Sideways is ok. It’s better to not move it too much, as it will damage it.
•\tCover with loose soil. Never water on the seed directly
•\tCover pot w/ a baggy, saran wrap, etc to keep moisture in.
•\tSet pot w/ seed covered in your grow room W/ Artificial light.
•\tCheck seeds 2x daily. Open the plastic bag and allow fresh air.
•\t^ Do not touch sprouts at all
•\tSeeds can take anywhere from 1 day to 2 weeks to germinate

    Water:
•\tFor Seeds the saran wrap should keep moisture in, so little watering is needed.
•\tWatering is only needed when soil is dry 1” of soil should be dry.
•\tDo not over water. This is the #1 thing that kills plants.
•\tDon’t add Ferts/Nutes to water solution for Aprx. 21-24 days.
•\t^Seed has enough nutes/Ferts W/ Soil alone for 21-24 Days.
•\tOver watering can cause root rot.
•\tWater @ room temperature is best as it does not “shock” the plants.
•\tWater until water begins to trickle out of drainage holes in pot.
•\tDo not Spray/Mist Leafs with water bottle as this is not necessary.
•\tAfter 21-24 Days from seed, begin to mix proper amount of nutes into water solution.

    Fertilizing:
•\tAlways Add Water when you add nutes. Never add just nutes
•\tNitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium are considered the important nutrients for strong growth.
•\tPhosphorus is the greatest during the seedling and flowering stages of it's life cycle.
•\tPotassium = strong sturdy stems & plants with a high resistance to diseases and pests.
•\tNutrient deficiencies can best be detected by a change in the condition and color of the leaves
•\tPH level of seven is idea. PH levels between 5 and nine are suitable for growing.
•\tCalcium can be used to balance the pH.
•\tUse of Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium will lower the pH of the soil, this can be rectified by adding some Calcium
•\tCarbon Dioxide can been used to increase growth during the vegetative stage.
•\tIntroduce Fertilizer at a gradual rate. Slowly
•\tFertilize plants every few days. Checking for signs of Nutrient Problems. I.e. Over/under fert.
•\t Fertilizing should slow down gradually as foliage growth slows down. I.E. Flowering.

    Lighting:
    •\t5000 to 6500K for Vegging.
    •\t2700 to 3300 for Flowering.
•\tKeep Lights 1-2” Away from Top of plants (CFL) and watch for any burning.
•\t^ Do not allow plants to stretch excessively for light This weakens them.
•\tUse 18/6 (18 Hours on 6 Off) For Auto Flowering Low Ryder Strain.
•\t^ Water plants, and check them during light periods not dark.
•\tKeep the 6 hours of dark completely dark. That means not going in grow box @ all

    Temperature and Humidity:
    •\tTemperature = 68 to 78 Degrees during Daylight Hours.
•\tTemperature= 15 Degree Drop during dark hours.
    •\tKeep room generally dry.
•\tHigh humidity = Broad leafs and less resin on them. Just the opposite for drier rooms.
•\tDo not let the room get to dry or too hot as the plant cannot assimilate water fast enough.
•\tTry to keep temps stable, avoid large drops or increases in humidity & Temps.

    Ventilation:
    •\tPlants Breathe through leafs.
•\tFresh air needs to be circulated in the box, to carry moisture and heat away.
•\tAir circulating through box creates a “Wind” which strengthens the stalks.
•\t^Stronger stalks can support more leafs/buds.
•\tMaintain the charcoal scrubber. Replace it ever 2-3 months or as needed.
•\tPlace a cup of vinegar outside of grow box if smell becomes a problem.

    Low-Stress-Training:
•\tGrow plant from seed to 3 or four leaf sets.
•\tUse small metal hook and bend over plant @ last internode.
•\t^Stick metal hook into dirt, or onto side of pot to hold plant down.
    •\tNever exceed 85 Degree bends
•\tPlant will begin to bend back upward (Towards light source) within 3 hours to 1 day.
•\tContinue normal Vegging, without anymore tie downs until you see a new leaf set.
•\tAfter a new leaf set, you can start to bend that stem horizontally around the edge of the pot.
•\tContinue doing this until you reach end of pot.
•\t^Once you’ve reached end of pot (where you first started) Cut end of top off and tie down.
•\tFan leafs (The ones at the bottom on the main stem, touching soil) Will turn yellow and die.
•\t^Can cut fan leafs off that touch soil, to prevent any mess of dead leafs and promote air flow.
•\tNow just let the plant flower. It will now have many colas not just one

Well hopefully this little grow guide note thingy i wrote for myself will help me with a sucessful grow, and help others too!

  2. Sweet.....another grow guide.......

  3. very informative

dosent mention about nitrogen in the nutes bit though

  4. Thanks for pointing that out.. I'll fix that later today.

  5. hey wow I hope this works. killer. I've heard of tying the plant down but wrapping it around the bucket, that sounds worth a try. thanks. I'll let you know of the progress. My first seedling just came up and is getting it's first light.
