4" x 4" Grow room - optimal number of plants? #Helpmepls

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by DeceiverZ, Mar 27, 2012.

  1. My very first grow :hello:

    1 x 48"L x 48"W x 78"H Grow Tent
    1 x 600W HPS in 6" Cool tube
    1 x 216W High Output 4 Lamp T5 (2x 2700k) + (2x 6500k) @54W/ea
Advanced Nutrition Nutes (veg, flower, bloom) + Fans + Filters, etc., etc.,

I have created a DYI Hydroponic system with a potential total of 9 buckets. Each bucket is 12inch in diameter with the 12-in diameter controller bucket located outside of the tent (as an option). Everything can be easily piped for an interval top drip system.

I have searched and searched but cannot get a definitive idea of how many plants I should ideally fit in this tent to get the maximum possible yield.

I am growing a Sativa dominant Purple Kush strain from femenized seeds.

This is my very first grow and I am looking for the best possible yield. I was thinking of SCROG but unsure at this point.

Experienced Growers.. Please help me !

    total Veg time?
    total Flower time?
    recommend Plant height?

Optimum can be subjective due to variations of plant type and size. Fairly bushy plants can limit to 4. I tend to veg and train a long time and train for 8 or more vertical stalks resulting in 8 or more monster buds instead of letting a plant do what it wants - just go wild.

Welcome aboard and soak it in

  3. Talk about jumping in at the deep end,....consider soil, and consider T5 until you are comfortable with what you have got so far, take a look at my library in my blog,

    good luck

  4. Consider hes invested, I didnt start half assed!!! Why do folks want to just on others so quick?

  5. Yeh there are too many variables to give a good answer to that question. How long do you intend to veg, are you planning on training, topping etc. You don't want to find yourself halfway into flowering and your tent becomes overwhelmed which would effect your yield.

  6. depends I would say 4 but a sog or scrog would be 16..I just do 4 for legal reasons...LOL...some things are number based if you know what I mean..

  7. I agree, four plants, each 3-4 feet tall. It's counterproductive to cram plants in. You think you end up with a better yield but you actually end up with a worse yield because only the top buds get light and air. Plus, you end up with more problems like bugs and powdery mildew because of the reduced air flow. I like to have the plants not touching each other or barely touching so that they aren't shading each other and can spread out their branches.

You don't want them any taller than 3.5 to 4 feet because a 600w light can't penetrate any further than that, so any more height is just wasted time. Since this is your first grow with this strain, you won't know how much they stretch, so you'll have to guess at what size you want to flower them. If they really are sativa dominant they could triple in size - the Purple Kushs I have grown have been squat bushy things and didn't stretch much at all.

You don't mention what your ventilation system is. If you don't have that down, then you still won't get any kind of yield no matter what you do.

  8. dunno if you can grow in a 4 inch by 4 inch grow room bro

  9. Thanks for all the suggestions guys! :hello:
Sorry for the delayed response - I have been working arduously on my setup.

After much debate, consideration and TONS of research I've decided to grow aeroponically in a DIY fashion. I have 2 x 54 Gal Rubbermaid Roughneck containers
with 11 x 3.75 net pots evenly spread throughout each container for a total of 22 grow placements. The plants will be fed through 2" pvc piping running through and within both containers having numerous spray heads.

These barely fit the tent but I can close that sucker up nicely without worries.

I have also built a 4' x 4' plywood pedestal for under the tent, effectively lifting the entire tent exactly 1' foot off the ground. This allowed me to place the nutrient reservoir under and OUTSIDE the tent to maximize space while reducing the overall heat of my reservoir. The two Rubbermaid containers I described before are at a "slight" downward angle (maybe 5*degrees?). I simply placed a piece of plastic at one end making the entire container tilt slightly to the front. This is where I placed my spout which leads to 1" tubing draining back into the reservoir. I have a open/close valve leading back to the reservoir just in case I ever lose power and want to leave the roots in there (without letting them dry out).

I'm using is a 35Watt, 526GPH to move the nutes up into the containers. No airstone required since everything will be plenty aerated once sprayed onto the roots of the plants.

I have TWO tents as described above as well as a separate area for the clones (which will be contained in a smaller aeroponic container of their own).

Ramones1234 is right.. I am truly vested in this en-devour but thank you vostok for the kind consideration. I am an engineer by trade and have 37 years experience of tinkering. I'm confident I can and will have premium buds in large quantities.

Thank you and please feel free to criticize my plans :)
