2x durban poison 1x super sweet tooth 1x aurora indica Testing 1 2 3 In week 4 of veg I removed everything above and below the 5th node on the super sweet tooth (bottom right) and left the 4th & 5th nodes on the other three too see what types of yeild differences i get on these strains. Couple weeks later, middles are starting to fill out real nice. I noticed that the super sweet tooth took much longer to recover from the initial topping and defolitation so remember in the end to count the yeild difference and see if the extra week of recovery is worth it Stems thickening up Week 1 of flower, 11/14. Switched to HPS. Getting bushy! Doing some slow defolitation to remove any fan leaves covering bud sites so we get some good light/air flow and removing the small stuff at the bottom Couple days later after some trimming Now Im in week 3 of flower, still bushy as hell, thinking im going to do another quick round of defoliation to get more light and airflow through the plants. Thoughts, tips, suggestions? I’ve read not to do too much, or too little so any input would be appreciated. Thanks!! Today:
Thanks man! Cant wait to see what these babies can do in a few weeks time Didnt mean to cause any confusion with the mainlining jargon but read that it was considered a combination of topping, defoliation, and LST. Im doing all those things so i just went with it lol
Much more robust than this pair of frail cuttings from a heavily Sativa influenced donor. Hopefully, a month more of the old bend a stretch will provide a sturdier matrix before short hours begin.
Buds are starting to fatten up a little bit and showing some trichs already. Still got some major bushing going on, slowly but surley removing any leaf that covers a bud site or stopping airflow in the middle. Temps got down to 35 last night, even w/ the heater in the tent it got down to 55. I’m not sure what types of issues that’ll cause but not much i can do about it anyway
Not sure if it would help, but my flowering cycle runs during the night (indoors) so that the heat from the lights doesn't become too oppressive during the Summer and buffers things when it gets cold in the Winter.
For sure, thanks for the tip The Gorn!! My last couple of winter runs were autoflowers so it was perfect in the cold w/ the lights on. But here the high today was 38 during the day and the grow tent is in my garage so it gets a bit nippy with the lights off anytime. I do have a small space heater in there and it definitley makes a difference. I cant really see that temps are having an affect on the plants, they’re growing like a mofo so they should be good lol Last 24 hours the low (lights off) was 56 & high (lights on) was 67 RH 53%
Thanks Grobro87! From what i can tell so far the yields should be pretty good but it’s still a little early in. Ill post everything up here hopefully in about 4-5 weeks! They have more bud sites than any plants ive ever grown before due to the topping/LST stuff done early on. These methods have worked very well for me thus far and, imo, is worth the extra veg time
Awesome, I’ll stay tuned!! Here’s one I just put into flower. Got it nice and flat with LST! Hopefully my yields are as good as yours look to be!
Ohhhhh she’s a beauty! Excellent job on the LST and keeping those leaves nice and greeeen!! Lookin good!
Couple shots below on the two different methods of “topping” or whatever other type of jargon you use to explain it. This is the super sweet tooth strain structure. As soon as the 6th node came in i topped everything above the 5th node and removed everything below and left a couple of fan leaves. This is how she’s turning out: The other method i read about was pretty much the exact same process as above except you leave the 4th node as well. Here’s the durban poison structure using that method: After topping and removal of lower nodes/fan leaves LST was done to open up the middle of both. In my opinion, it seems like leaving the 4th node results in less recovery time allowing the plant more time to grow out branches and future bud sites. The differences in strain could have an affect here as well. I tried to keep the canopy more even like grobro87 but it got away from me lol Side by side, super sweet tooth on the left, durban poison on the right:
Your plants look excellent. Great job. You actually didn't mainline like S2C said in an earlier post - all you did was top once at the 4th node, removed the growth underneath on 1/2 the plants and kept the both the 3rd and 4th node on the other 1/2. Then you let it go au natural from there. Mainlining is creating a plant with usually 8 to 16 main colas by symmetrically topping either 3 or 4 times. All the other growth is removed so all the plant's energy goes to the mains. Don't misunderstand, you did a great job, I just wanted to explain mainlining to you. Good luck in the future. This plant has been topped 3 times and will have 8 colas.
Thanks for dropping by and for the compliments, MickFoster! I think for my next journal on definitioncity ill leave out any words with debatable meanings lol
Thanks Grobro87! We’re in week 5 of flowering cycle now.. i’m just starting to notice a couple of hairs slowly turning red on the super sweet tooth - there’s some light at the end of the tunnel!!
