I have a bong with a 14mm stem (the stem only takes 14mm bowls). Is there any way I can get my ash catcher (18mm) to attach to it? Do you guys have ideas for something home made that works?

You'll have to buy an adapter but that's most likely going to make it really unstable, particularly if it's a 45 degree ashcatcher.
