Legal Canadian D.I.Y 4×4 Tent! Grow Your Own!

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by nervanuh, Nov 14, 2018.

  1. Hi and Welcome!

This is my second ever attempt at cannabis cultivation! I live in Canada and the recent legalization has motivated me to try my hand at growing my own on a budget!

I am looking forward to the trial and error, the successes and failures, and the disappointments and joys that comes with growing cannabis.

I used this forum on my first grow to get help and learn about new techniques almost a decade ago, and I really hope to have the same experience this time around.

I'll be posting random pics of my plants and my equipment for my own documentation. I hope to learn and grow as a cannabis gardener in this brave new age of legalization!

Please feel free to ask me questions about anything! :) Let's keep it positive!

    It's great to be back!

    Cheers!

  3. G'day fellow Canuck! Happy legalization! Where abouts are you from, without being too exact? I'm from the east coast, maritimes
    Anyways....
The seeds I have were just random bag seed that I got from a friend, I have no idea what strain or genetics they are.

Do you have a reliable seed source? I want quality seeds, but I don't know where to start looking. Any tips?

As for lights, I have two 300w/6500k LED bulbs, four 90w/5000k LED floodlights and two 100w/2700k LED bulbs. (Pics included)

I also engineered and constructed my own light housing reflector from dollar store materials (pics included)

My first grow I used CFL's and it worked fairly well, so I thought I'd try these out. They seem to work so far.

I'm relatively new to this and I'm experimenting with different, budget options, so please be kind.

    Any constructive criticism is welcome

    P.s.- forgive the quality of pics, my camera lense is cracked 20181114_103951.jpg 20181114_103924.jpg 20181114_104023.jpg 20181109_233220.jpg 20181109_233153.jpg 20181109_233200.jpg 20181109_234048.jpg 20181109_234057.jpg 20181114_104552.jpg

  4. Cool i'm from the prairies!! It's my first time ordering seeds, I looked at some websites from overseas but ended up trying to find a canadian one! Went with the true north seed bank, first time ordering , no idea how reliable they are.
Interested to see how LED bulbs perform for you vs CFL

  5. Oh cool! I'm originally from the prairies! I'm an east coast transplant lol
I have a lot of mystery seeds I can experiment with until I am confident enough to grow with more at stake.
I am excited to see how these LEDs perform as well. I may switch out lights and experiment with set ups, we will see.
    Thanks for your response!

    Cheers!

  8. Light Distance!?

I have the big lights about 2-3 inches away from the tallest plants.

Is this too close? Or will they benefit from being very close?

I believe I have sufficient air circulation.

The humidity is a little low from what I understand, usually between 30%-40% and the temperature stays around 25°C with the lights on, to around 18°C at it's lowest during lights off.

They seem to be thriving so I'm going to keep it this way for the most part.

    Opinions? Suggestions? Advice? 20181114_161723.jpg 20181114_161712.jpg

    Cheers!

  9. Looking good today ladies!

They seem to be perking up a bit since I eased off the watering and let them somewhat dry out. All in all, doing just fine!

  10. You might be keeping the lights a little bit too close. The yellowing on the leaves looks a bit like sun burn. I would raise them to maybe 8" or 10" and see if they start to green out. Though I don't know much about LEDs, I've never used them. I do know you keep CFLs close as shit but I think CFLs run alot cooler than other lights.
Definitely let them dry out before watering! I just pick up my pot and when it feels light... time to water.

  11. Thanks for the tips! I have the lights pretty close, I thought maybe they would benefit from the extreme light, but I will try backing them off and see if they green out like you say. I find the LEDs run even cooler than cfls to be honest, I can touch the bulbs after running them for hours and they are barely warm to the touch on the bulb, but fairly warm higher up where they connect to the sockets.
I found in my cfl grow, my leaves were extremely dark green and lush, and this grow, they are more of a lime green color. I'm not sure if this is from the lights, or the fact that I'm using completely different soil than before. Either way, I will try raising the lights like you said and see how my ladies react.
    Thanks again for your input!
    Cheers!

  12. My gauge still reads quite moist a few inches below the soil, so I haven't watered in about 4 or 5 days! I am getting anxious to water and feed them, mostly because I'm bored and want something to do lol. I have been monitoring the dryness and weight of the pots and these ladies don't seem to drink that much. I am going to check on them today and may give them a drink if they need it.

How can you tell if you're under/overwatered? I know my plants were quite droopy when I had them overwatered... they are starting to perk up now after drying for almost a week.
What should I look for in underwatering? Same droopiness? I want to dry them out enough for the roots to form a solid structure, but I dont want them to die of dehydration either..... tips/advice?

    Cheers!

  13. Your plants will wilt if you under water as well as over water. The only difference is I find once you start watering an under watered plant, they will perk up pretty fast.. like a few hours. Over watered plants will have wet soil but continue to be wilted. Under watering will slowly kill the plant, normally from the bottom up, so the leaves at the bottom will yellow first and slowly yellow its way to the top of the plant.
Previous grows I was watering every 5-8 days depending on my humidity levels and temperature. For a plant in veg that is. Seedlings is a different story.

  14. Awesome! Thank you! I am on about day 7 of no water and they're starting to perk up and get darker green. I will continue to monitor the soil moisture and try not to under/overwater. It's hard because I like to be in the tent, working with the plants. I tend to overwater just because I feel like I should be watering lol.
Thanks again for the tip! Will keep you all updated!

    -Cheers!

  16. I have been letting them dry out for about a week, I had been overwatering them for a while, that may contribute to the faded color. They seemed to perk up and green out a bit after a few days of drying out. I am going to do a nute feeding in a few days and hopefully that will fix any deficiencies. Will keep you all updated! Thanks for the tips!

    -Cheers!

  17. Update!

Some darker greens popping up a little bit. Still quite moist at the bottom of the pot. Overall, not too bad. Could be worse lol.

  18. I guess I should list some of the products I'm using on this grow since I've received a few questions in my other topics.

For a medium I'm using a promix potting mix with about 1/3 MG perlite.

For nutrients I'm using green planet's medi one at about 3/4 recommended dose for the stage they are at.

As for feeding/watering, I've been overwatering for a few weeks, so I've cut back to a watering about once every 1 1/2 weeks, or when the soil near the bottom is no longer moist.
I feed the plants about once every 2 waterings.

I think that's about it for now. Feel free to ask any questions/leave a comment!
