Aloha GC community, Mimmi here! First grow, first journal post and I'm about 98 days into the process, and 26 days into flower! Thanks for checking me out!! I'd love to hear comments and suggestions! \nSo, this is my first grow ever! Recently moved to Colorado, and felt it was the perfect time and place to start honing my green green thumb skills, after being known to kill every single house plant that came near me. Found a random bagseed from an unknown dispensary, and this far into the process I'm kicking myself for not remembering what strain the seed came from! Wasn't planning on starting the grow until after x-mas/NYE traveling, but with this seed in hand, I couldn't wait! Did not want to spend a ton of money to start up with a nice set up, so I just used stuff around the house and have been adding as I go. Vegged in very basic conditions and the first thing I bought was a 60w dayspot, which along with a 58w Red+blue LED light got me through the entire vegetative state. Before kicking it into flowering, I made sure I had a 2x4x5ft tent and a 400w HPS light ready. \nIn short: November 1: Germinated two seeds, one made it! December 8 (Day 37) Survived 5 days away with no water due to travel December 13 (Day 42) Transplanted into its final home (3-gallon smart-pot). December 21 (Day 50): As you can see, basic setup, but still thriving. January 2 (Day 62): Left plant for 7 days without water and came back to this! Amazingly resilient plant, did not expect the growth spurt, yikes! January 16 (Day 76): All moved into tent life, 4 days into flower and taking LST to another level with hemp twine attached to the smart-pot. Starting to see pre-flowers, IT'S A GIRL! January 21 (Day 81): Starting to outgrow the tent, plans to open up the top and raise the lights in process. I wish I got a tent taller than 5ft! damnit.. January 31 (Day 91): Opened up tent up top and the lady is showing some beautiful progress! 19 days into flower \nWell, that's it for now, time to go! Hope to update with some progress pics soon! In the meantime, tell me what you think! \n/Meems \n\n
B E A Utiful. I love the way you trained her. That's so smart with the lid underneath the pot. I'm gonna steal if you don't mind . Good job girl!
Thanks! The lid and hemp twine just made sense at the time, so easy, and effective! I've been bending and training and had a fan on her since early early on. Trying to find some kind of hooks that can be attached to the tent poles and plant to stretch more, but haven't found any yet!
Pretty good for a house plant serial killer. I wouldnt sweat getting fancy hooks to tie her down, just grab some string and tie away. Get her all on the same level so you can get light even on the canopy. Nice job + subbed
Looks good. Sent from my HTCEVOV4G using Grasscity Forum mobile app Looks good did you take a cutting to continue??? Sent from my HTCEVOV4G using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Depending on how heavy them buds get, you might want to consider twisty ties to tie up some of them cola's. I've seen you've done some super cropping , smart! Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Thanks guys! I'm continuing to lightly pull on the branches daily, placing them where I want them to be, and might tie down some branches as I see fit. Is there a risk to stress the plant unnecessarily by doing this?
Nope. People train there plants from a young seedling. Its known as LST, Low Stress Training. Lots of info in the forums on it. Cant wait to see an update!
I took two cuttings a few days into flower. One didn't make it, but the second one is rooting and I probably need to transplant it into a bigger home soon.
I'm a bit familiar with LST, and will definitely continue using it for my next grows. Since this is my "experiment" plant, I tested the heck out of this girl, pulled, tied up, fan on her at all times, and realized they are super resilient as long as they're healthy (obviously). Amazing!
Yes they are called weed for a reason. You cant really stop these guys from growing unless you royally fuck up. Sounds like your going to have a beast of a plant. When you take clippings try and take them before flower. Clipping flowering plants means the clippings have to reveg before they can root (from my understanding) your probably okay since it was so early in flower. Just a heads up! Also did you put any rooting agent on the clippings? Aloe Vera plant juice works great for this!
I waited to take some cuttings til after I saw pre-flowers, when I found out it was a girl! It definitely was an after-thought, but put them back under a 18/6 light, and it took about 3 weeks to see roots pop out! I used a rooting powder (Bontone) that I had used for houseplants initially, but it seems to work okay.
My first setup was nearly free and unrefined, cut-off plastic bottles instead of actual planter pots, a cardboard box with aluminum foil wrapped around (not great), 60w 'dayspot' light and with the addition of a red+blue 58w LED, I was starting to see a lot of growth! If you're about to start your first grow, you don't really need a lot to get your plants started, just do it! Start-up (~$50): After Christmas and NYE I got a bit more serious, and I needed to be ready to flower this baby! I desperately needed lights and a tent! This is the current setup (~$230): iPower 400 w HPS (dimmable) Apollo Horticulture 2x4x5 tent Lasko circulation fan: VanTech 6in duct fan: To keep temperatures down. (Deemed useless when the plant outgrows the tent and you have to open up the top.. >_< AcuRite Indoor Humidity Monitor: Until I have more space to use for growing, I will be improving as much as I can on this small 2x4 setup. Any suggestions are welcome! /Meems
Last night I decided to trim about 30 of the larger fan leaves from my girl. This is my experiment plant after all, and after reading about people swearing by both methods; leaving all leaves and complete defoliation, I decided to go somewhere in the middle. I'm not sure if the bottom of my plant is getting enough light to really flourish down on the lower branches, and some of the massive leaves were covering real nice bud-sites all over. Is there anything to say about the leaves? This is from a random seed, so I have no idea what strain or type. /Meems
So, I trimmed some fan leaves on Feb 11th. This apparently put my blooming plant in some distress, real quick! About a day and a half later I saw a couple of small pollen sacks on the lower branches. Freaked out for about two seconds and then I just said, fuck it let me find a sharp razor blade and cut these off really carefully and catch the sacks in and see what the heck happens [experiment plant!]. See pics below! She's currently in week 6 of flower and I've been doing a 12/12 light schedule 8am-8pm the whole flowering stage. After seeing the tiny pollen sacks and speaking about it with a friend, I changed the light schedule to 14h light/10h darkness by adding on two more hours at the end of the day, which I will run for a week (til 2/20), then change to 13h light /11h darkness for 3-4 days or so, and then 12/12 til the end (Should hopefully be done soon tho?!) There was a long explanation on how the science behind this works, but in short, it kind of takes 1 step back to then remind the plant that it's fall and it's really time to finish up flowering and growing buds! Thoughts on this? I haven't seen any new pollen sack growth, so I hope that it'll continue to focus on growing buds!! What's the worse that can happen, right? /Meems
Still a bit worried about my lady showing any more hermie signs! I check in on her throughout the day and sit there with my loupe and scissors ready to inspect and snip.. haha I realize I'm a bit obsessive but whaddayagonnado? She's my baby! Buds are still growing, maybe at a slightly slower rate, and I'm not sure what I'm looking at but worried that I'm seeing seed pods (or are they swollen calyxex?) Not exactly sure what to look for I guess... will try to get some closeups tomorrow Alight guys, /Meems
