First grow here, I've been reading these forums and a couple books and decided it was time to try my luck. Recently added radiant barrier to attic space in an attempt to combat the summer heat. The material used is similar to Mylar, and it gave me the idea to construct my own tent using that material. Ended up with roughly 4'x4'x5' tent into which I've ducted a 4" supply tap off of upstairs air handler to cool 400W MH/HPS ballast and bulbs. I've got 4 feminized strains which I've sowed directly into Light Warrior in solo cups. Plan to run a 3x3 scrog with these ladies. White Dragon Crystal Queen Purple Bud Amnesia Pictures below are 24hr after being sown. I didn't have timer set up right, so 400W MH dimmed to 50% during hottest part of the day got temps up to 95 for 2-3 hours. Almost looks like top portions of perlite yellowed slightly, did the seeds get too hot? Pictures below so modified ducting which now blows onto lamp from below. Temps now stay below 82. I also have a small fan perched over a bowl of RO water to keep humidity 40-60% and maybe provide a little bit of evaporative cooling. All comment and suggestions are welcome, hopefully this ride ends well. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Pictures from beginning of day 5 from seeds below. Crystal Queen seems to be doing the best, cotyledons are showing! The others don't seem to be doing as well, they seemed to have broke ground earlier, but haven't shown any growth since. Purple bud and white dragon seem to be stuck in seed casing, possibly from not planting deep enough. Amnesia had a taproot poke through slightly, but it looks very weak, not sure about her. I've been misting the top soil about 3 times a day with RO water, morning, evening, and usually again before going to sleep. I'm thinking about germinating at least one more seed unless anyone thinks the other three might still pull through? Crystal Queen White Dragon Amnesia Purple Bud Sorry for the crappy phone pictures. Any likelihood of others pulling through? Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Yea give them a couple more days, they add should pop up. Nice setup. Like the box. Just gave me an idea. How thick is material u made box from? How big do pieces come? And how much per sheet? I'm along for the ride. Gl Sent from my LG-D800 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Thanks for joining bgsixxxniner, the material I used is called Attic Foil. It's 5 mils thick, they come in rolls 26", 48", and 60" wide rolls from 250 to 9,000+ square feet. It's durable stuff, they have videos on their site demonstrating tear resistance and it's no joke. Pictures below from today, one week after plopping seeds directly into soil. Crystal queen is looking good, purple bud and white dragon have lifted up further, still encased in seed. Amnesia had portion of root exposed and it's now withered apart, pretty sure she's done. Crystal Queen White Dragon Purple Bud Over the weekend, I germinated another feminized purple bud seed and a regular sleestack skunk seed in paper towels. Taproots were about 1/4" long today so I went ahead and planted into two new cups, this time using clear cup inside blue cup to inspect roots. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Another picture showing purp #2 and sleestack skunk alongside the others. I mixed up the FF light warrior with some RO water and let it sit outside for a couple hours after shaking it around in a Tupperware to have even moisture content. I won't fry these, and I bet they get off to a better start. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
What's up GC, last round of germination went better than the first so far. Regular sleestack skunk popped up two days after planting, 4 days after beginning germination. Purple bud and white dragon aren't looking good, especially white dragon. Still in seed casing, but purple bud is still standing up and seems like it's stretched a little bit, how long will it stay in seed casing?, it's almost been 2 weeks since planing. Purple bud 1's stem seems yellow and weak were it meets the soil, am I overwatering? White dragon's stem is real dark, has dropped significantly, I don't think she will make it. Purple bud 2 was pushing up soil at the same time as as sleestack skunk, but it's taproot was curled around seed so it popped up out of soil and I think the light fried it. I'm thinking that purpose 1 is done. And use lift test b4 watering. Also watering around the outside parts of cups, that'll help roots to grow. Jmo but other seedlings r looking spot on.
What's up bigsixx, thanks for stopping by. So I ended up doing a third round of germination 10/11 went into soil 10/13 white dragon feminized and purple bud feminized, purp 2 never broke ground not sure if it was damping off, but that's what I suspect. I'm fairly certain I had been overwatering, so far I've killed off white dragon 1, amnesia, purp 2. I'm also battling some heat issues with temps up to 88 at night when ac would shut off and I was running 24/7 lights, but I'm cutting back to 18/6. I've also transplanted into 5 gallon smart pots sitting in a 15L plastic container filled 4/5 of the way with hydroton to create a modular SIP. Didn't have quite enough soil to fill the 5 gallons completely but they're are 3:1 ocean forest to light warrior with a layer of hydroton at the bottom. Crystal queen was transplanted 10/14, skunk 10/16, purp 1 and white dragon 2 10/18. Skunk and white dragon could have waited for sure on the transplant but I was just very unsure of the watering. I tried the lift method but unsuccessfully I think. I've been filling the reservoirs every 4 days or so and keep water level up to about a 1/2 below pots. Pretty cool how the capillary action draws the water up. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Here are some pictures: Crystal Queen Three leaves normal? Sleestack skunk Purple bud 1 This chick finally busted out of her she'll after weeks, I thought she was dead for sure but now she's fighting through some heat stress but seems to be liking the new pot. White dragon 2 Probably way too early in the transplant for this lady but hopefully she recovers nicely. Family SIP smart pot First timer so any comments or suggestions are appreciated. I always thought 5 gal. pots were over kill for a 400 watters. Seeing that mos plants under 400 will usually reach a height of roughly 3 feet, give or take a few inches. And the general rule of thumb is a gallon of soil for every foot of growth. So u should b ok with not filling all the way.
Ladies are starting to take accustom to their new pots/SIP setup. Been top feeding with 1/4 strength Grow Big every 5 days or so. Growth is finally starting to speed up. Crystal queen Sleestack skunk Purple Bud Family Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Thanks BgSixxx! Pictures from this evening below. Fed with 1/4 strength nutes big bloom and grow big yesterday. Lots of new growth, and still a nice green color, can't wait until I can scrog, what height above soil should the screen be? Also FIM'ed sleestack and tried to on crystal queen but I got a bit more of her so maybe I topped it, I guess we'll see. Some new growth in 2 days. I'm probably gonna get a screen together here soon. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Those are looking nice and prettyyy mcjaxon! I like the setup too mang. Simple and organized. I have a smart SIP type set up going as well (off brand smart pots) and I need to get something better going as far as my reservoirs. Ill definitely be sticking around for this. I never seem to be able to catch a good journal as somebody is starting it so this is sweet. Ive been reading and lurking around this site for a while but i still dont really know how things work with the whole reps and subbing threads or journals or whatever.
Alright cool good looks bgsn. Yeah I'm on the app right now an up in the right hand corner there is 3 dots and when I click on it there's like a drop bar type thing that pops up and one of the things I can click is subscribe. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Hey Shane, thanks for stopping by. Looks like you figured out the subbing in app, I also use the app and still am not 100% on all functions. I am becoming a big fan of SIP setup, I've been gone the past two weekends and they've been fine. I also built a screen today, 32"x32" made from some leftover 4x1 and 2x6, 1.5" pattern of eye hooks. Legs are 20" right now, may drop an inch to be right at 10" over soil. Family Screen up Crystal Queen left, Sleestack Skunk right Purple Bud White Dragon Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
