I couldn't help but make this thread..I'm an avid jiu jitsu student and practitioner who can not go a whole day without trying to learn a new technique..Competition martial arts was a big part of my childhood and I definetly feel it helped shape me into a better person today..I just wondered if there were any fellow blades on here who did any competitions or even like to train in jiu jitsu?

For me personally jiu jitsu gives me an amazing sense of peace..I love to train, I love being exhausted after, and I enjoy being good at what I do but still being humbled by others who are more skilled or experienced..It challenges me to give my best all the time an when shit is working to get more creative..I am finishing up the last year of my masters in school so as of lately competitions haven't really been an option but I still train daily..For me it has definetly become a lifestyle.

    Have a good day GC:smoke:

jujutsu is badass, jiu-jitsu(two guys hugging each other on the ground) just pisses me off...

  3. lol yea normally you only see that type of non sense on the internet though..in reality not many people come in to an actual jiu jitsu academy with intentions to start trouble..atleast not intelligent ones :p

  4. although i love bjj i gotta say judo is way more fun

  5. agreed

  6. huh? :smoke:

  7. Just learned some jiu jitsu for the first time from a friend literally right before i logged on. Triangle chokes and stuff.

That being said, I've only been in two real fights in my life. The first one, in ninth grade, a kid started hitting my left shoulder, so I smashed his head into a brick wall. Another, some Irish fag at my University started punching my right shoulder, so I put my arm around him and slammed his face into the ground.

Honestly, there are too many variables for me to spend thousands of hours attaining the muscle memory required for various martial arts. Plus, I hate how ridiculously passive aggressive martial arts people are when they're in a training environment. It's like there's some retarded unspoken contest where everyone tries to get away with throwing the hardest fake punches, etc. Really? I have a hard time separating the concept of me fighting another person from actually trying to hurt that person.

    Just my opinion though.

  8. Poor sparring = poor trainers. When I spar with other students it's 50-70% power and speed but the trainers still control the ring or cage. When I spar with my trainers I only hit as hard as I'm prepared to get hit back. There are unspoken rules in the gym among people who are there to train seriously.

  9. yeah well that opinion would change if you actually trained, or went to a credible gym.

Ive trained in bjj/judo for the past 3 years. been slacking though in the past few months due to gym drama.

  10. I just started taking bjj/muay thai at one of matt sera's gym on LI.

Yeah getting that close to guys was pretty weird at first but after you get into it you start not giving a fuck and it feels like your wrestling with your little brother...

And i've only beein going a little over a month but i don't think it's muscle memory like the other guy said...just in a month i've learned how to end a street fight very quickly along with several other useful things. It's not muscle memory it's about getting into a good position for you to fuck some shit up.

And its not like karate where it's like "no bro come at me like this "

When you spar/roll with people at the end of the class the other guy trys their hardest not to get choked out/let the other guy go/get into a better position/whatever. You get to see how effective each move is for real.

Everyone has their outlook that's understandable..I don't really understand the whole fake punch comment though..I know what you mean but in my opinion jiu jitsu is a whole different monster then many other martial arts..also I don't really see it as trying to hurt other people..I study jiu jitsu so I'm able to intelligently defend myself regaurdless of position.

As far as gyms go though or legit jiu jitsu academies..No matter what gym a person goes to there are always those people you'd rather not be around / train with (but that's life in general bro).. I don't let somethin small like that stand in my way..instead I like to train my ass off so I catch those type individuals slippin.
