Anyone else have an aquarium?

  1. Feeding and checking stuff is no problem. I just don't like to spend an hour picking algae off rocks every week.
With sweet water (don't know what to call in English, it's sweet water in Dutch, I mean no salt water) aquariums you can go a long way with a good Co2 installation and some liquid additives. I spend maybe 5 minutes a week trimming the plants a little bit and another 10 or so replacing some water.

  2. When I first saw them I thought the same thing. Gave mine away but I've always wondered if they went upright when they died.

  3. i believe the word you're looking for is freshwater. And I don't ever clean algae except off the glass, and that only takes about 5 minutes, and I only do that every few weeks. Other than that siamese algae eaters take care of pretty much everything, or you could also get some kind of pleco or maybe snails. I've never used any liquid additive in my tank, i find that the all natural way is better so the bacteria builds up and such and the tank can maintain itself better. The only chemical is use is tap water dechlorinator.

  4. My plants are really flourishing, the whole bottom is covered with carpet-forming plants.
I have a lot of small shrimp, they are very efficient in cleaning algae as well. I used to have siamese algae eaters but they were too active for my liking. I like a peaceful tank with very subtle movements.
I only use one liquid additive, it's nutrients for the plants. I also have heating under the gravel and nutrients for the plants under the gravel as well.
Do you have a Co2 installation too? I used to work without one but with the right amount of plants and a Co2 installation that is set up properly, you hardlly have any maintenance.

  5. Oh okay, yeah siamese algae eaters can be pretty active at times, i've heard some of them get aggresive sometimes too, although mine never did. I forgot about shrimp; they're very nice cleaners as well. And no, I don't use a co2 installation, but my tank doesn't have live plants. Eventually i'd like to get some but this was my first fish tank and when i set it up i didn't really set it up with live plants in mind so i'd have to really overhaul the tank if i wanted to add some.

  6. It depends on what you want and how big of a tank a 20g softie reef would cost
    50 for the tank
    75 for the lights
    50 for the live rock
    And 15 per coral

  7. [quote name='megamax42']Thats pretty insane, keep us updated with those pictures, that bonus room sounds so chill.

  8. I want 40 gallons at least
Also all the equipment I need to keep maintenance down as much as possible.
I think love rock and coral is much more expensive in my country. Probably has to do with import laws.

  9. No. but i want one. Its on my list of "Baller Shit" i will get if i ever hit the lottery

  10. A 40g tank would cost 100 for the tank 100 for the protein skimmer 150 for the lights you could get dry live rock alot cheaper than live and add a few pounds of live to seed it also would you want live coral

  11. What i would do for one of these bad guys, i could have gotton one for $60 but i got my red bellys instead. Kinda wish i got the black piranha.

  14. That was so small try to do the same with a dovii or jaguar

  15. A black piranha would fuck up any cichlid, and a shoal of rbp would do the same. I agree that if you put 1 rbp vs a bigger aggressive cichlid then the cichlid would put it in its place. But then again the point of having rbp is to have at least 3.

  16. A few pictures of tanks designed by Takashi Amano.
He applies the Japanese principles of Feng Shui gardening to aquariums, creating beautiful underwater landscapes.

  17. Count Phat Toi out of the fish tank game. Put it in the garage(40g) along with the stand.

Gave my african cichlids to a friend yesterday so i know they are in a good home. Im a little sad but its time to move on. I dont have the time to maintain tanks anymore. I had a red zebra since he was a super baby.Grew up in to a beast and killed over 10 other cichlids i had, only way we could describe him was he was a "Bull". Had him for 4 years and its weird not seeing him in the room anymore. They will be missed!

Not going to lie, made me sad as hell. Best wishes to the rest of you guys keeping up the hobby!
