Jenny thanks you for your political activity.

  2. His ideas are worth a good laugh or two.

  3. There was a big statue of him at the Museum of Communism I went to in Prague. He has been a lot of peoples hero over the years.

Perhaps you can answer why socialism is the best and how you'd implement it effectively over say, all past tyrants whose hero was also Marx?

Don't ruin this thread though, you have two others dedicated to socialism:

  6. To me it sounds like nothing but BS.

Both parties, with the help of the Federal Reserve and big business together caused and allowed the financial bubble to occur - just like every other financial bubble including, and since, the great depression.

You have Republicans blaming Democrats and you have Democrats blaming Republicans. Niether will admit they are both at fault, short of maybe Ron Paul. It's nothing new, just the same-ole same-ole partisan divide.

Now, the thing to do if you are a politician is to vilify big business/corporations without actually admitting any fault of your own (politicians). It's good press for Obama & Co, who are some of the most corporatist politicians we've seen (since Bush), to pretend like they care about "the little guy." Politicians MUST justify their existence and our need for them. If people realized that we really don't need the huge federal government that we have, the DC politicians - bureaucrats - lobbyists - Fat Cats - PACs - and anyone else benefitting from their giant ponzi scheme that leaves all of us at the bottom of the pyramid holding the bag...well they'd all be out of business.

Meddling overseas, you see where that got us. Meddling in business, you see where that got us. And some people will argue - "without government it would be even worse!" I would have to strongly disagree. Without big government we don't have these huge, nasty, evil corporations because we don't have crony capitalism. We don't have the federal reserve. We don't have the federal income tax. We don't have bailouts. We don't have government subsidies. We don't have special permits for some and not others. We don't have consumers forced into purchases (hey, buy a house! We will let you keep some of the money we steal from you by writing the interest off on your federal return "wink wink"). We don't have huge multi-national corporations paying $0 in taxes and some mom & pop down the road putting up an 'out of business' sign because they have to pay 40-50+% taxes. Our dollar would be worth something and we wouldn't be in debt up to our eyeballs. You don't see anyone talking about that?

Too much government creates the "problems" and then when a bubble pops up and eventually bursts (as they always do), Government then claims they can solve the problems they created with MORE SPENDING and MORE GOVERNMENT. It's insanity.

Whats ron pauls stance on corporate loopholes in tax deductions /so forth like that are apparently in place today? Ive always thought lower corporate income tax, tax companies that send employees overseas (semi heavily), and eliminate corporate tax loopholes to ensure that no major corporation pays so little in taxes relative to his brother (a small business). with an emphasis on getting special interests out of washington.

  8. You forgot Bernie Sanders and Dennis Kucinich.

As for the rest, well, we definitely share a view similar view on what is wrong with the government. I agree with the premise of most libertarian arguments. It's in the conclusion that we differ. Libertarians and progressives share a common enemy. The difference is that libertarians want to solve the problem with a bulldozer, whereas us progressives prefer a sledgehammer. I think the first step for both groups is getting corporate influence and special interests the FUCK out of Washington, though.

  9. Love em both!

    Anthony Weiner as well

oh sorry forgot this was a libertarian circle jerk

  10. Well, I'm not Ron Paul so I cannot answer for where he stands on a specific issue rather than say perhaps what his philosophy might be.

He is against federal taxes in general and wants to eliminate the IRS. I think eliminating the IRS might eliminate those loopholes in the tax code that big corporations use to their benefit. Big corporations hire former IRS workers, lobbyists, and those involved in politics to be part of their accounting team...they know the game better than anyone. Hell, the tax code is over 70,000 pages!

I dont feel like any of my questions were answered.. Are you worried the economy is too fragile to take some hits on big business'? Are we already in trouble?

  12. You asked one question that would be directed specifically at Ron Paul. Me not being Ron Paul, I answered as best I could.

And, look at this thread title...feel free to start an 'Obama circle jerk thread' and I'll stay out of it.

Ill wait for an answer for someone who knows of ron pauls views better than you to answer my question..

I thought this was the libertarian thread, not the MJU*** spouts trash thread.

  14. More trash, from 1988:

  15. to any person who claim himself a libertarian, please provide more insight to my original question which is:

  16. I heard aaronman say something about Paul not ever wanting to vote for a tax increase. If I had to guess, I would guess Ron Paul thinks that these corporations shouldn't be paying many taxes in the first place. So, he probably doesn't want to close the loopholes, but rather extend them to everyone, and just generally lower taxes.

  17. I also think this is a libertarian view, and this is why i worry.. Libertarian views shit on small business alot more that they think...

All libertarian views do is level the playing field. How does it shit on 'em?

EDIT: don't wait for reply, gotta deliver papers lol (that is, if you reply again)

  19. Correct. I remember he voted against repealing corporate tax cuts (IMO you might as well call them subsidies) to big oil just last month. However, I believe it's true that he never has and says that he never will vote for a tax increase, so I guess he was just sticking to his guns.

I think the economy would collapse in a manner that would put the great depression to shame if Ron Paul got to enact his policies overnight, but since that will never happen, I feel good about supporting him for the presidency. I like more of his ideas than I dislike. The benefits of ending the war on drugs and reshaping our foreign policy/cutting military spending outweigh just about everything else. I think he could reshape the political atmosphere and debates we have in America as well. Honestly, I think the Republican party has turned borderline fascist these past few years, and we would be SO much better off with a man like Ron Paul leading them.
