Smart pot/air pot question

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by IMO, Dec 28, 2010.

  1. Ever use the hydrofarm "dirt bags" ? Gotta be same as the smart pots, just a few dollars less.

  2. This. I'm trying both, but evidence leads me to believe the Air Pot is the more useful product.

  3. Wow this is crazy! Last night while I was laying in bed I thought this Exact same thing! Great minds think alike my good sir! :hello:

  4. I'm putting my money on the air-pot.

There is no substitution for root surface area and nothing (container), that I'm aware of, allows the plants to produce the surface area that an air-pot does.

Post up some porn shots of the girls :)

  5. As requested :)

That was two nights ago, the empty Air Pot in the very front is now sporting a baby Vanilla Kush seedling :)

  6. Nice, real nice.

How do you like that secret Jardin?

  7. Those are just cheap ass tents from the local grow shop, pinhole leaks all over, but *shrug*, it's all in a dark freaking basement, so no worries :)

  8. yeah, my tent has a ton of pinhole leaks also, but, I only paid like $80.

Get what ya pay for, I guess :)

I'm a fan of wider containers also. Once you start getting to deep oxygen has a harder time getting there and that is why I believe after a certain depth root development cuts off some (at least for certain plants). But myself I would go deeper then 6 inches :).

  10. That's what SHE said... all of it lol ;)

I've thought about making some too. I think landscaping fabric is a pretty close match. I think a lot of the people commenting don't have any experience with smart pots. They do the SAME thing as air pots. Look them up. They air trim roots to make for a bigger root ball. You don't get root rot in a smart pot. These aren't the same as grow bags. They allow are flow to the roots and keep your plants very happy. I'm using camo pots which are the same.

  12. IDK if anyone has done a side by side test of fabric versus air-pot.

When I ask people how they feel about fabric bags they say they are ok. When I ask the same question to people who have air-pots they say they love them.

Does it mean anything? again, IDK, but it certainly stirs passion.

  13. I think for my next grow, just for giggles, I'll run a pair of plants -- one in a 3 gallon Gro Bag, one in a 3 gallon Air Pot. I would bet dimes to donuts that the Air Pot plant will be larger, more robust and provide a higher yield.

  14. That would be an interesting grow, but grow bags aren't the same as smart pots. I'm already doing a comparison grow between smart pots and regular plastic pots, but next year I'll buy an air pot and do a comparison between them and smart pots. With my smart pots, I've noticed tighter node spacing so far as the first benefit.

  15. You are absolutely right. I have both smart pots, and air pots, and they both air prune the roots. The Air pots make LST much easier with all the holes in the walls, but are twice as much as smart pots.

  16. Yeah, I bet the air pots would be good for LST. I just put tomato cages around mine and that gives me tie off points. I have a huge black widow problem at my house and I can just imagine them making homes in all the holes in the air pots.

  17. I don't know about that -- I'm examining both the 3 gallon Smart Pot and the 3 gallon Gro Bag I have here, and they're pretty much the same material.

Since I have one of each of the Smart Pot, Gro Bag and Air Pot, maybe a 3 way comparison is in order?

  18. Hmm, I'd like to see that. I though grow bags were more of a plastic or burlap type material.

  19. I just did some googling. These are smart pots version of grow bags.
Black Fabric Smart Pot Grow Bags (set of 3)

Is that what you have? If so, then it's the same as our smart pots. In the past I've seen plastic grow bags with holes in the bottom for drainage. Now I guess more grow bags are being made from the fabric. I think it would be cool to do a comparison between the air pots, smart pots, and a regular plastic container.
